For weeks I have been trying to create PDF from a survey drawing of 686 acres at 1"=200' showing 15,000 feet of detail NS and was 42" x 80".
It is to go on the clients office and hang landscape on his west wall and would would match the property in the background. Kinda like a hallway building plan that says you are here.
My problem is that it always cuts off around 54" in length.
I've tried from Carlson CES and AutoCad 2006 and the results are the same. That is why I think it is in Adobe.
Have tried creating a custom page size and a few other tweaks to the print options, and still nothing past 54".
Changed my scale to 1" = 300' and was able to create a 36" x 54" PDF. Wished for the other to show more details.
Using v6 professional.
Is a default or limits of the Adobe?
A quick question, do you have 80" worth of stuff to print at 42" while maintaining the ratio ?
This may, or may not help. I created a simple 200 sale drawing at your 42 by 80 size in Terramodel (do not have Acad). I plotted it in Win2PDF (do not have full Adobe), but first had to make a sheet size for 42 by 80. This is done by:
1. Open the printers folder under "Control Panel", "Printers and Faxes" (in XP).
2. Under the "File" menu, select "Server Properties".
3. Select the "Forms" tab.
4. Check the "Create a New Form" box, and fill out the "Form Description" and "Paper Size" fields. It is best to leave the "Printer Area Margins" fields as 0.
5. Select "Save Form" and close the dialog. Your form should now be available to Win2PDF.
May work for other PDF printers too.
Good luck

I use primo pdf. It allows you to adjust the custom postscript paper size in your printers and faxes windows. Also, for the changes to take effect, you must close the AutoCAD down because when it fires up, it takes whatever settings from PrimoPDF that are there then.
You can make the page and big or as small as you like.
If you keep having problems, you can email me the drawing with the settings and I'll knock it out for you.
I've never tried to make a PDF this size. I'm afraid I'm not very helpful. However, I wanted to take the opportunity to let whoever reads this know about the PDF writer that I use in my office. There's a few surveyors around me that didn't know about this one and when I let them know it saved them some money. You can find it if you Google DeskPDF. It's only $30 for the professional version. It's done everything I've ever tried to do for PDFs and didn't cost much. I have no idea what it would do with a plat that big though. I hope you get things worked out, A Harris. Maybe this PDF writer will help someone save a little money. Merry Christmas to everybody.
I've done one at
42" by 60" for a similar purpose.
The only issue I had was what Kris Morgan points out about changing the settings for the custom sheet size in the printer settings before opening your CADD program in order for the custom size to be available.
Why not just create the .pdf of the largest size you have and have a local reprographics shop to plot it to scale? Any decent repro shop shouldn't have a problem doing it.
I just tried creating a 42"x80" (Postscript Custom Page Size) in PDF995 (the freebie I use to create PDF's). It opened in Adobe Acrobat as 42"x80".
Been using PDF995 for many years.
