So when I do a surface I tell Civil 3D NOT to add intermediate break points but it sticks a few random ones in the drawing anyway.?ÿ It only seems to do this on curves.?ÿ Has anyone else noticed this??ÿ If so have you found a way to stop it from happening?

Yep, Don't use Civil3D?ÿ ;)?ÿ Sorry couldn't resist.?ÿ ?ÿA few extra points is a lot better than these numb nuts engineers that give out a surface with smoothing applied at 1 foot grid.

I am not sure exactly what process you are using when you say "when i do a surface"??ÿ A surface is a multi-step process.?ÿ It sounds like your mid-ordinate distance setting in your breakline creation is too small.?ÿ Try increasing the number.?ÿ?ÿ

Create a surface.?ÿ Create feature lines from objects, assign elevations to them, turn off intermediate grade break points, and assign those lines to the surface as breaklines.?ÿ The software inserts grade break points on those lines occasionally anyway.

I think it's most likely just a quirk of the software.
