Our office recently needed to reinstall Civil 3D 2008 on the Survey Department computers. (I'll skip the why since it is long, complicated and isn't relevant to my question). In doing so however, we lost the add-on for translating a survey network. At one time the add-on was posted for download from Autodesk's Civil Community. The file does not appear to be there any more. Does anyone have a copy they could send me?
Thanks,
Renee
Hi Renee,
Have you checked locally, you might try Scott Goebel, I don't remember having it when I was there, but we may have. He may have upgraded since then.
Autodesk has decided that they only support the last three releases, and that this is consistent with the policy that they always had.
They fail to state that they would often go two-three years between releases, so if you bought R12 in 1994, you could still get R2000 in 2000. Now, it means that if you bought anything later than C3D 2009, you get no support, because they switched from one release every 2+ years to one release every year. You must upgrade to C3D 2010 to get anything from Autodesk.
To be fair, the software capabilities have increased HUGELY since then. But I realize that's not a lot of consolation for people who are having difficulty staying alive, especially since they eliminate important support for older releases, essentially putting a "death date" on them. I personally tell Autodesk that these yearly releases are unacceptable, but I need a lot of other support to make that point, as they don't listen until TONS of customers say the same thing. And even then, we'd still probably be battling their clueless marketing department. I find the fact that they say their policy has been "consistent" to be an insult to all their customers.
And I'm an owner of a company that provides add-on software to Civil 3D, and have been at Autodesk University's Exhibition Hall for years now... You might think they'd listen to someone like me... But I feel ignored. The only reason I keep going is that I feel I'm more productive with C3D than with any other software, including Carlson (the only option I'd consider outside of C3D, but only with the AutoCAD-imbedded version, since I'm still not impressed with the Intellicad version, which still leaves me using AutoCAD...).
