Hello, I've got Carlson civil/survey 2012 and have a question.

I've got some cross sections I've generated from a surface model. I'd like to add the right of way and fences to the sections.

Can this be done? In the past I have manually added this information by scaling and sketching. Seems like there would be a routine to do this.

I would even think that it would sample a point specifically where your right of way crosses the section.

Any suggestions?

I understand your question but how would it know what elevation to plot at? I have tried the same thing.

Well it could work several ways. First it could just be an offset label. Second it could sample a point from the tin at the r/w line as well at all of the triangle edges.

I think I'm getting close. There is a "Section Points from Right of way" routine, just have not gotten all the way through it yet.

Gary Rosen, Carlson's Regional Sales Director for New England and Canada gave a pitch at our Drainage Conference last week and I think that he showed such a facility was possible.

You might try [email protected]

I would think it would be fairly easy.

So far I have been able to convert my RW lines to 3D polylines by draping them over the TIN, then creating a .sct file using the "section points from right of way" routine. It then creates a section file with the offset and elevation of the right of way. These can be plotted with the existing ground sections. However the description ends up being POINT-ROW-R_

Not really convient for labeling. It does plot a circle where the R/W is....I guess that is better than nothing. I'd like a vertical line with a R/W label.

This would not work very well if the r/w lines were beyond the TIN. You might have to assign a dummy elevation to the r/w lines.

If there is a better way, someone please chime in.

Ok, that is what I thought. It IS much easier. The r/w lines do not have to be 3D polylines, you just have to have label RW checked on in the draw section dialog box.

The description is a special description that allows the program to know where to draw the vertical line.

Step 1 create your existing sections

step 2 either edit the sections to include the special description at the proper offset, or run the Section Points from Right of Way routine to create a special r/w section file.

step 3 include the special r/w section file when you are plotting the sections. Be sure and have "label rw" checked on.
