Still fumbling a bit through Carlson....?ÿ today I can't seem to find out how to "draw' a points based on the descriptor....?ÿ I don't want to go make fifty point groups for each drawing.?ÿ Just?ÿ draw by code.?ÿ ?ÿ any chance that still exists somewhere in this leviathan ??ÿ?ÿ

If your points are in your coordinate file, create a point group based upon that description. They do not have to physically be in your drawing. Once you have the point group, you can draw that point group.

There may be an easier way, but that is what I came up with off the top of my head.

Yes,?ÿ but I was hoping NOT to go through the hassle of making point groups.?ÿ ?ÿ In LDD it was simply insert points/Dialog/include with raw data "XX"?ÿ ?ÿso it was easy to put points in then remove them..?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿNot a big fan of the Carlson point tools just yet, I guess.?ÿ?ÿ

Give Tech Support a call. They have always been pretty helpful.

Maybe use the layer by descriptor option

As a workaround... I made point groups for the largest of the coding groups,?ÿ ?ÿdraw all points?ÿ ?ÿ then Freeze based on Point group to remove those groups I made.?ÿ ?ÿLeft me with the outliers in the drawing that needed to be cleaned up.?ÿ LIST points by selection and printed for fixing.?ÿ ?ÿ

Come to think of it.... The "Freeze" option has?ÿ a window to pick points by code match...?ÿ WHY doesn't the Draw function have the same options??ÿ hmmmm

I think Jason has the right idea . . it's the "lpoint" command or "layer by description" option on the "Draw-Locate Points" menu.?ÿ Then for the layer name, it adds a customizable prefix such as Pt- followed by the description.

Alternatively, you could use the old C&G command that I think still works in Carlson . . "cg_plot_points" and it'll plot all points on a layer by the descriptor's first block of text and ignore any other following information so that a point coded "ep ec" for example would plot all points beginning with ep on a common layer assigned on the Drawing Settings under C&G Options.

The lpoint command would create many different layers based on the many different possible descriptions with a common ep prefix.

Some of the C&G commands are still there. Plotting points is one of them. You get all the old CG methods.

Interesting option!?ÿ I have never seen that before.?ÿ It does create a bit of a mess when the crew codes things without grouping prefixes, though!!!?ÿ?ÿ

Toward the bottom 1/3 of the draw-locate points dialog box is a field titled "Wildcard Description Match" that normally contains an asterisk.?ÿ Put the description of the points that you want to draw here.?ÿ It works fine.

Thank you very much!?ÿ There are so many "options" and toggles it gets confusing.?ÿ I wish the programmers would keep things consistent.?ÿ Along the bottom are a series of nice big clear buttons for other insert point options.?ÿ Makes me wonder WHY is this a weird little radio button and why is it named that way????ÿ Only the shadow knows.?ÿ?ÿ
