Hey guys,
I am completely new to surveying. My company uses Civil 3D for design and build projects.
We have a surveyor using a Carlson GPS 628 GNSS with a data collector. My question is can we take what we get from the data collector and bring it into 2015 Civil 3D?
Is it as simple as exporting the .crd file and changing it to a .dwg
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you
there are many ways to do what you ask..You might be able to import the crd directly but i cant say that for sure, you can export a txt or csv file and bring in your points directly or you can import a raw file...not sure of workflow on C3D..I'll let someone else answer that. You dont want to try changing the crd to a dwg...
A simple way:
Export to an ASCII (*.csv is commonly used) from the DC
Import ASCII in Civil package
If you'll be working with Carlson a lot, best way would be to get Carlson Survey for your C3D in the office. You'll be able to work with the raw data more efficiently and exchange other files back and forth with the field guys. And it's around $1700...so its not too hard on the wallet. You can download a trial on their website.
There is a carlson add on for 2014 civil 3d to use the CRD file, not yet for 2015.
Export a points file, and use the dxf from Carlson for linework.
You may need to set up description key sets, and point and labels styles in civil 3d to get points and symbols displaying the way you want.
We use a civil 3D template set up with the correct units, styles and local projection.
