Found something interesting in Carlson today. Using "Edit-Process raw Data" tool for balancing by Compass has a small quirk. I know not using LS is old time. Regardless, when one is in the editor there is an option under the "display" tab that allows you to view your data by horizontal distance, slope distance, etc. Today I found that if your display is in "slope distance" your closure will vary slightly from the display being in "horizontal".

I was always under the impression that coordinate software uses the slope and zenith for calculations and only show results in horizontal. Perhaps that is not true.

Not that the difference is significant but interesting nonetheless.

I wouldn't use that tool, then.

Think it's a rounding type issue?

Yes. I think it's a rounding error. just seems a bit odd to us.
