He's using LDD, so he needs those note commands in his fbk to draw linework.
He can either do them as notes, or use the Carlson commands in the field, and when he exports to fbk, they will be converted to the fbk style commands.
If you use Carlson CE, Carlson CE or Carlson Field in your data collector and use the F2F codes properly, you will find that data collection is faster and easier. Bring that file into Carlson Survey via the F2F *.fld file and you should get the same speed increase I got. My planimetric details that used to take a few hours before, now take less than 5 minutes. Contouring is also faster and easier. Carlson in the field and then loaded to Carlson Survey in the office gives a seamless effort and the time saved will pay for the software in just a month or two, depending on your work load.
