Hi all - New here. Hoping you can help me.
We just upgraded to Carlson 2014 w/ embedded Autocad from Carlson 2004 (yes, it was time) 🙂
I'm noticing that when i select a point group, my only grip node is on the elevation text. I'm used to there being a grip at the node of the point.
Is there a setting I'm missing to correct this?
Thanks!
You need to select everything.
Carlson points have a total of five entities: node, symbol, name, code and elevation.
If I move a single point for whatever reason, I select the entire point and initiate a MOVE command, pick the node and place at it's destination. The point has not yet moved in the database (*.crd file). I will then double click the point and Carlson will ask me it I want to edit the point data from the file (*.crd) or the screen.
I'm referring to if I select an object & get grips, the only grip that is showing is one for the text, not one on the node of my point.

Hit "Ctrl + H" on your keyboard. It will change the pickstyle variable and you will then see all the grips.
Look under Settings -- AutoCAD Options. Visit the Selection tab and clear the Object Grouping toggle:

Thanks! This works.
It now splits the symbol & the text, but I get the grip on the node now.
I didn't have that selected, so that wasn't it.

The pickstyle variable is, for lack of a better word, "picky". Sometimes it'll change on you for no reason. Remember that Ctrl + H is your friend.
I'm still back on the 2010 version, and I KNOW that Carlson has this one employee whose sole function is to work on all new releases and rename all the commands and move them to different places, BUT, look under the "Settings" tab and see if there is an item "Point Object Snap On/Off". That will allow you to snap to any node by selecting any part of the point group.
For future reference and the sake of the discussion, the PICKSTYLE variable (Ctrl+H for applications that support this mnemonic accelerator) is controlled at a dialog box level in the AutoCAD Options via the aforementioned Object Grouping and Associative Hatch toggles.
It is possible that the Object Grouping toggle was enabled (and at the root of the behavior) and that setting the PICKSTYLE variable to 0 (either manually or through CTRL+H) turned off the Object Grouping toggle prior to your entry into the Options dialog box.
From the AutoCAD on-line help for PICKSTYLE, values can be:
>Controls the use of group selection and associative hatch selection.
>0 = No group selection or associative hatch selection
>1 = Group selection
>2 = Associative hatch selection
>3 = Group selection and associative hatch selection
From http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/qaID.asp?tip=5976 :
>Ctrl+H toggles Pickstyle (group and hatch selection)
To summarize, Ctrl+H switches between 0 and whatever PICKSTYLE had been. Having said all this, I don't believe Carlson Survey OEM supports the Ctrl+H mnemonic accelerator.

You are correct. I should've pointed out the Object Grouping check box as you have, but I was trying to provide a quick solution. Anyway, what I have experienced is the Object Grouping checking itself on without notice, especially when starting up drawings. This lead me to the comment that the pickstyle needs to be changed sometimes.
I reiterate your post in that everyone should be familiar with Object Grouping in the dialog box to eliminate these issues.

I never knew about the Ctrl+H short-cut until this thread so I can say this old dog learned a new trick. 😉 Kudos, Glenn, for suggesting this short-cut!

Thanks Ladd. We appreciate you posting here when you can. Carlson is simply the best surveying software IMO.
