I have a design plan that has a solid black hatch showing up behind their text.

Can someone tell me how to remove it or what I can do in order to see the text when plotting.

Thank you

They've likely used a background mask on their text and it's not plotting correctly. I remember having that issue with Intellicad 7 and AutoCAD 2013 when I first made the switch from LDD. The issue was quickly patched in AutoCAD not sure about Intellicad. What software and version are you using?

I'm not sure about a solid black hatch, but I've had trouble with "wipeout" (AutoDesk) turning solid black when I plot. They are usually used to clear up text when text is placed over linework.

If you're using 'cad', commandline> 'wipeout'> 'f' (for frame)> 'on' (for on).

You can then erase or move the frame away from the text. I like to draw a construction line so I can move it and then move it back like it was.

do the same command and turn the frame to 'off' to make the outline go away, again.

hope that helps.

I believe it is wipeout, is there a way to make it print correctly?

It just shows black hatch now.

Thanks

Thanks

I don't know of a way to get it to plot correctly (in other words, I don't think you can 'fix' the issue).

Seems like I first saw the problem with older versions of CAD (14) and newer operating systems (like around windows xp). This also involved plotting to older plotters (HP 750/ 600).

A local copy shop does an ADOBE process they call "sanitizing" that helps.

That goes like this: plot from cad to pdf. Take the file (or email) to them for plotting. Let them know the blob exists and that they may need to adjust ADOBE.

They see the black blob and 'sanitize' it.

I'm not an ADOBE guy and can't offer anymore than that but, it helps/ works.

I suggest you turn the wiepout frame on and erase or move the frame (the outline around the text in question that you see when you cut the frame on).

You have to contend with whatever the designer was trying to 'mask' but that's better than a big black blob on your drawings.

good luck

I'd check with Carlson to be sure that you have the latest patches for your version. I know this was patched in AutoCAD 2013 and I would think that Carlson has included that patch at some point.

The quick way to be sure that you're dealing with wipeouts rather than background masks is to select one of the texts in question and then go to properties. At the top of the properties window there is a drop-down box that shows the total number of objects you've selected and if you click the arrow it will drop-down and tell you 1 line, 2 circles, etc. If this window lists wipeouts then you're dealing with wipeouts. If it only lists mtext then you're dealing with background masks. Both are similar, but the background masks are easier to work with.

Change the text color to white and use the "Bring to Front" in the 'Display Order' option under 'Tools' in ACAD or the 'View' in Carlson.

It is mtext, I would say then they are background masks.

If I print in greyscale, it is readable.

Thank you

In my experience wipeouts plot black in some printers/plotters and not others, and it is not an issue of how they were created. A workaround for plotting features over a solid hatch is to screen the color of the hatch to about 15 in your printer configuration settings and it'll appear as a pale gray (if you're plotting monochrome) or a pale color (if colored). A bolder font would help too.

Hope this helps.
Peter

I think if you change it to white, it will print black. Try changing the mask color to 255.
