Baffled by CAD Text Style Problem

I crashed my main drafting machine and had to do a full reinstall of AutoCAD/LDD. I've got just about everything back the way I had it, except for one thing involving text styles.

I set all my template drawings with various text styles, and one of the elements I set was the text width factor for simplex to be 0.70. Now, I can open the DWT and original DWG files and verify the width factor is 0.70, but when I start a new drawing and use any of my DWTs, it sets the width factor back to 1.00. The text heights I set for any given text style are all correct, but the width factor is defaulting back to 1.00 for all of them.

Anyone have any idea what that one value would be overriden? I've been doing this for 10 years and this has never been a problem....

I've probably spent 5 hours today messing with this, it's driving me nuts.

Thanks.

"Classic" versions of LDD used a type of script file, that ends with the extension .stp

On my old version, I can edit this file and change the font, height, width factor - everything/anything. Or create a new one.

The height is calculated by the scale of the drawing. It was very, very easy to do, so they probably got rid of it.

Search for leroy.stp

Thank you very much. I'll check that out when I get a chance.

I've been trying to create the same scenerio in my template drawing. I created a style using simplex with a width of 0.7, exited the template drawing and then created a new drawing. I can't seem to create the proplem. I would be curious to know what caused it, if you solve the problem.

RFB,

Thank you so much. This problem has been driving me CRAZY for 2 days now. The leroy.srp file had reset to 1.0. I copies my old leroy.srp and mleroy.srp file from my old hard drive into the /Data/Setup folder and now it's back to it's old self.

I never would have remembered this in a million years, but I guess at some point in my life I modified that leroy.srp file. The knowledge base here is what makes this website so great!

Frank, it was the leroy.srp file that was overriding the my template settings. That file contained the defaults for "L60", "L80", "L100", etc... which is same names I used for my custom textstyles in the template drawings. I had noticed that if I created a new textstyle in the template with a different name (like L100a) the settings would stick. Perhaps I shouldn't have used those default names for my text styles, but I've been using these templates (updated occassionally) for about 15 years, so I'm pretty entrenched ...

Thanks for the update. It's amazing how many ways things can get fouled-up in today's technological world. I heard an old surveyor the other day say that he finds himself spending way too much time learning how to do stuff.:-(
