Called a grip. Look under options, selection and you can turn it off or on.
I think the menu thingie is actually a "tooltip". Go under options, over to "User Preferences" and uncheck the hyperlink stuff, then go to "drafting" and uncheck all the Autotrack settings.

Actually cptdent is correct for the stupid menu thingy popping up. I didn't look at your arrow!
That is the "dynamic grip menu" to turn it off type "GRIPMULTIFUNCTIONAL" then 1 enter. To get the functionality back type "GRIPMULTIFUNCTIONAL" then 3 enter.
That is not a tool tip or anything to do with a hyperlink...

I followed your advice and probably got rid of some other useless stuff, but I still get this grip pop up menu...
Remember just because you don't have a use for something doesn't make it useless. The dynamic grip menu is an extremely powerful tool that can get in the way from time to time, hence the ability to turn it on and off.
Like Randy said, it's in Options/Selection/Grips/Show Dynamic grip menu. This should turn it off.
Thanks guys. That got rid of it.
I have found that many new features severely interfere with the ability to quickly run the software via the command line.
it's why I prefer Carlson ;o)

I'm using Carlson Software. It's some of the new AutoCAD "features" that annoy me.
New AutoCAD Features?
I used that tool in AutoCAD 10.
A lot of those tools had been disabled in the lame AutoCAD that Autodesk allows Carlson to use.

Paul, so your saying that your DOS version of AutoCAD had tooltips and pop up menus?
Several things have interfered with the command line...tool tips, dynamic input, command line auto complete/correct are just a few.
If you type real slow it's not a big deal.
I was talking about the dynamic edit polyline tools, especially with a digitizer tablet and 16 button puck instead of a mouse.

I have at times been annoyed by the dumbed down version of AutoCAD that comes with Carlson Survey, but I guess you get what you pay for. Carlson is still a pretty good deal especially now that the other option is C3D.

I spent a few years using a digitizer puck on a tablet.
Never did find a use for the icons though. I guess that is what got us to the silly icon driven interface we have now.
Personally I cannot establish any connection between the icons and the commands. They all kind of look foreign to me (kind of like hieroglyphics) and I have been staring at them for many years. Probably depends if you are right or left brain dominant.
