Below is a post I made earlier this week. I have not been able to resolve this. The drawings that come up "Write protected" when I try to save them are in fact not "read only" in the drawing file properties.
Anyone have this issue or any ideas to check to correct this?
Thanks
I'm sure this is more an AutoCAD issue and not Carlson one, but when I write a PDF from a DWG, it makes that DWG file "archive only". Then I have to change the name in order to work with that drawing anymore.
Any idea of a fix, or work around. Its a real PITA.
Thanks
What do you mean write? Saving as a PDF or printing as a PDF? The suggestions were for printing.
Can you tell us the steps you are taking inside Carlson to make the PDF? Step by step. I have never seen this happen before, so it must be either a bug, a setting or a preceedural error.
I am using Carlson CES and that will happen to me on occasion, usually at the 11th hour on a project.
I am not sure it is Carlson that does it or some other process that causes a file to take on the archive attribute.
Haven't a clue why it happens.
Had Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Pro and found it was entirely outdated and for some reason it would not upgrade any further.
I found Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and it solved a lot of glitches that have been causing many problems and my system seems more stable now.
😉
I have 2013 now, but it happened in 2011 also. I hit the plot command and choose printer/plotter DWG to PDF.PC3. Then it creates a PDF file of my DWG file. I open the PDF and everything is OK. I go back into Carlson and open my DWG and it says that this drawing Write Protected and you can only use as a read only.......
So now I have to resave this drawing under another name to be able to make any changes.
Really a pain. I will be out in the field again tomorrow and will check back.
Thanks

I thin' I see your problem Lucy!! You are re-opening your drawing, thus you get a message that this drawing is in use and you must open it as read only. Once the PDF pops up for you to look at, you should be able to hit its little red "x" and close that pdf and be back in the drawing. If not, go to "file" and do a "close" and you probably will then be back in your drawing.
Take a CLOSE look at the top of the screen and note which drawing you are in when you close the PDF. You should be back in your original drawing file, but you may actually be in the dreaded "Drawing 1". If so do a "close" and you should then be where you want to be.
Dent - I think you may have nailed it.
I check it out. I appreciate you help.
