"AutoCAD application has stopped working"

this is comming up when i try to open a dwg. it will start up the dwg and then pop up a box that states "AutoCAD application has stopped working". it doesn't matter how you open the dwg. it doesn't matter which dwg it is trying to open.

anyone got an idea?

Have you tried running a "Recover" on it?

1. As always try reboot, sometimes that works.

2. Windows programs. Repair.Needs original setup disk. Worth a try, if all else fails. LOL

If you google that you will get a lot of hits. Generally seems to be a windows problem. You may have picked up a virus.

BricsCAD.

I offer that facetiously, but only sort of. If you require a big-name CAD add-on (e.g., C3D or Carlson) it might not work for you, but I'm happy to report that I switched from AutoCAD to BricsCAD for production work a month or so ago and haven't looked back.

Stopped Working = Fatal Exception?

I know you said, app has stopped working.

However, this has helped me out of a serious jam in the past involving "fatal exception at ________":

After seeing how legible it isn't in my post, let me know if you want the image emailed and I'll forward it over to you.

After inserting an aerial photo that just became available I got the same error message. It totally locked up the drawing making it unusable. When I used an older format aerial photo image everything worked fine. Evidently there are new image formats that an older AutoCAD (2008) can't handle.

I guess its time to learn Carlson.
