I have been using a sokkia set 5 e total station with an hp 48 smi version 7 for years. the set 5 e has worn out. I am buying a new nikon npl 322+ total station. The salesman & i hooked up my hp 48/ smi version 7 to the new nikon.

The hp 48/smi v7 would zero the nikon, but would not measure the distance, nor send the horizontal & zenith angle & distance to the data collector.

Question? Can this data collector be used with the new nikon npl 322+ total station?
If so, how do you do it.?

I have a fellow pls "coalition partner" that I do joint jobs with & his instrument operator works for me sometimes.
He uses an allegro ce mono data collector with smi version 7. We need to have the same software.

Question? Does anybody have any suggestions or know where i might find a used allegro with smi version 7 software??
I was told that it will work with the new nikon.

Thank you in advance for any help !
Gordon

Did you select the instrument in the 48? I would start there. The hp needs to know which kind of data stream to expect. Then it should should work fine. Good luck, Jerry.

#1 the Nikon will not work with the Sokkia cable and they look identical

You may have to customize setting on instrument to fit HP48

Jerry,
Thank you for your reply.
We set hp48/smi v7 to "Nikon".
He set "4800 none 8 1"
A dealer in Florida said try setting the bald rate to 9600.
Obviously I'm trying to get the hp48/smi v7 to work first.
Will not see the new Nikon NPL 322+ again until Monday or Tuesday to try again.

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the reply & the pdf.
We had my smi manual, saw those 2 pages & we "attempted" to set it up that way.

Many thanks again,
Gordon

Chip brought the cable with the new Nikon; so, I "assume" it was a Nikon cable, but I'll check with him to make sure it was a Nikon.

Thanks again,
Gordon
