Does anyone know if you can utilize a 3D monitor to view AutoCAD drawings in 3D. It would not be such an advantage in with normal drawing but it might be nice when viewing point clouds and DTMS.
Don't see why it couldn't be done. I hooked up 3 monitors at work. Have Cad on one, a toolbar or two on another and typically use the third screen for other apps.
John,
3D monitor? They have those? How's it work?
Dave
Ooopppss, misread original message. I somehow read "3rd monitor" which can be done.
Wouldn't someone need those goofy 3d glasses to see a 3d monitor like one needs for the 3d TVs?
Don't we typically use 2d screens to represent 3d anyway? Does that work?
I work in 3D all the time and I am thinking that might be a bit much for the ole brain to process all day long. I have considered it, but, in the end I am fine working the way I do right now

3D monitors basically flash alternating shifted images at you. The glasses make sure that each of your eyes sees only a single image thus mimicking how we see 3D in life. The system requires a special monitor, graphics card and yes those funny glasses.
When I worked as a photogrammetrist / analyst for certain defense agency not to be named we had the damn things (it hurts to say it but that was over 20 years ago). Photogrammetry shops use them all day long.
If you are working in 3D it helps to see in 3D instead of faking it. I think it would be especially helpful when working with point clouds.
I was just wondering if anyone had seen drivers to run AutoCAD in true 3D. I have not looked into Cyclones capabilities yet.
I just saw a 27" monitor that has 3D capabilities. I was thinking a 3 monitor system with 2 25" monitors to either side and the 27" 3D in the center.
When you try it, let me know.
I have the card, but not the monitor.
Sure you could use a 3rd monitor... but you'll still need to use the primary AutoCAD window to display the model.
With the 2nd monitor holding the tool palletes, and command line, and toolspace and properties windows... what benefit would the 3rd monitor be?
maybe to hold your Outlook and Office applications, but I'm not following the desire here. Its Monday, after all. 🙂
