Sorry to hear this,
My prayers to his family and friends.

That's a bummer, the flowers are always picked before the weeds. RIP Steve.
When we hear the sad news like this, it really makes one stop and think and appreciate every day and realize how lucky we are to have a good healthy life.
Keith
My sincere condolences to Steve's family.
May your memories give you strength and bring you peace.
Someone should send this to the family
Hope someone out that way will send all the above comments to the Gardner Family.
Sorry to here this news. I had a few online discussions with Steve. I always thought his views where solid. Surprising how many surveyor/guitarists there are (I play also). The end sure can sneak up on us unexpected.
Fire this up while you read down through the posts about Steve.

Stunned...
Steve was a real nice guy. He was a rare kind of person who actually had an open mind, and gave consideration to what another person would say.
He had a generous spirit, too.
We'll miss you, Steve.

I thank you Mr. Gardner, RIP:-(
Fire this up for Steven Gardner
Thanks Deral, I did fire it up.
you studied up on that, and I think you nailed it. Mr Gardner was a fine surveyor, a fair-minded man, and a willing friend to all who posted on this board. More importantly he was a geetar man, and a blues player. If the former weren't enough, the latter will get him into heaven to jam with folks like Jimi Hendrix and John Lee Hooker.
Steven ain't gone, he's just moved on to a far better place. Hopefully some of us will eventually get there too.
A sad surprise indeed. I'm grateful for the air of solid but not humorless professionalism in his posts. I was always glad to see them, and I'll always be glad to think about him.
Henry
Sad to hear,
Rest In Peace Steven
Chr.
I haven't replied to this post yet. I never met the fellow or worked behind him. It seems his reputation precedes him and he was a Land Surveyor many will miss. I do recall many posts he made here and elsewhere. Solid. For his family and loved ones I wish the best. Looks like we lost another quality fella...
Geez, I shared a few e-mails with Steve.
I perceived him as a young vibrant guy.
I'm sure his loved ones shared a full and satisfying life with Steve, and I am just as sure he left them too early.
I hate to hear this.
Enjoyed reading his post on here.
Rest in peace

I read this post a couple days ago, I didn't know what to say. I still don't know what to say, I'm in shock.....
Like many others, I've never met Steven or followed his work, but knew him by reputation; how others interacted with him. Binge liked to call him Chancey, but I don't think he meant anything by it. Mike's the kind of guy that likes to argue sometimes, just for the sake of arguing.
Steven was very helpful on this and the old POB board, always good advise and thought provoking discussion. I've looked in a couple of times on the CLSA board, but never posted there. He had a couple of good threads going, that I'm sure changed some to think differently.
Thanks for everything Steven, you will be missed.
I hope to finally meet you some day.

Doug – you said exactly how I feel. Steve’s survey posts were always “must reads” for me and his other category posts that I read (all but P&R) really fleshed him out as a guy you’d like to make a point to contact if you were passing through his town.
> Binge liked to call him Chancey
Yeah, I remember when Binge started doing that. I thought “huh, Chauncey?” and then realized that he was alluding to simpleton “Chauncey Gardner” of the movie Being There. Steve was always besting Binge in arguments so that was just MLBs effort to level the playing field…
There is an old circa 1940s roadside attraction outside of town, Peterson’s Rock Garden, that has this plaque:
Its not a good photo, it says “Enjoy yourself, it is later than you think”
(this was also a Guy Lombardo tune in the 1940s).
Words to live by.
> Steve was always besting Binge in arguments
Don't tell Mike that, LOL 😉
I had a boss, once, that would say something stupid just to see if you agreed with him, then chastise you for it. One of my better mentors.
You are are right though, Steve was far from the simpleton, MLB tried to make him out to be.

Amen.....
This is shocking news. I almost always enjoyed reading his posts, and I'm pretty sure I would have liked him as a person. RIP, Steven.
