RPLS has always struck me as an example of taking a very successful product and killing it dead by "improving" it.

Then ignore the final gasps as the body is ravaged. Once or twice a month I visit, much like RPLS.COM was a sick old friend, hoping to see improvement. I seldom sign in just scan the new posts. One week ago, 6/19/2015, I saw a June 9 post with the title "Order High Quality Real Passports,Driver’s License,ID Cards,Visas" under Strictly Surveying. Sent a private email to Sarah Harding, Group Publisher, pointing to the "POB Troubling Post" that appeared to offer illegal documents for sale.

This thread reminded me to check on the RPLS.COM board again. The post offering the documents is still there as well as still being considered a recent post. Sad to see an old friend fade.

While SurveyorConnect was inaccessible I had withdrawal pains and made a reply to a thread on POB. (confession time here). I also flagged the illegal document post.

Now almost two weeks later, there seem to be 3 newer threads (and a duplicate) and 7 newer posts. That's pretty slow.

There has been a few folks I've spoken with that have compared SurveyorConnect's new format with the ill-fated RPLS change-over (guess who I've talked to?..). In light of that I'd like to take this opportunity to speak my feelings about the comparison.

Whether I like it or not is secondary (this time around) to the boost I feel that Wendell, et al, has bent over backwards to provide. I wasn't too keen on POB anyway. I took exception to the tyrannical and horse-assed moderation. I felt like the message board was sold down the river for advertising opportunities. It was a pain to navigate and every page was heavy with the rancid scent of Mike Binge. It hurt to even look at the screen. I have not been back since. I believe I was the twentieth person to sign up on Wendell's little crazy idea.

I was fond of the older format. Like an old saddle, it just fit. But I can also surely understand the need to keep abreast of the technology. It didn't take me but a day or two for this new format to feel just as comfortable. I, for one, will always be indebted to Wendell, Angel & Co. for their personal passion to continue providing this board to us all, free of charge. In my mind walking away because of the format is more of a function of how someone feels about the management and not necessarily the format. In that lies the great difference between RPLS and SurveyorConnect.

I can feel the love here. It's still a great place. Not because of the bells and whistles, but because of the people.

RIP, indeed, RPLS.

Aw, you are tho thweet. 😉

I think I speak for Angel too when I say that we have a passion for the place. For awhile there, it was a love-hate sort of thing, but I eventually realized that it was ME who had the problem -- I expected everyone to be nice to each other and I let it get to me. If I seem like a jerk today, it's because of the previous battle scars and I've learned to take action and move on, even if some folks are offended. I used to worry about each and every person and not wanting to hurt their feelings -- when they hurt mine, then I got pretty upset. Nowadays, if I get a nasty email or whatever, I just ban that user and move on. Of course, I do still uphold people to a certain professional level, and it bothers me when they don't see that a demanding attitude won't get them anywhere. I still try to appease them to some degree, but I won't take continual abuse. But that's just it -- I've learned to recognize, learn and move on, even if it means pissing some people off.

If nothing else, BL/SC has helped mold my personality and to understand other personalities out there. Sometimes we are still surprised, but mostly are starting to understand people better in general. Here's a little article I wrote several months ago: http://harnessweb.com/ive-learned-operating-discussion-forum/

I haven't been on RPLS.COM in months.

I was one of 40 invited for beta testers when they changed formats.

Not one of my comments made one single bit of difference to those pig-headed fools.

Mark would be so pissed off.

I had contributed hundreds and hundreds of answers on RPLS over the years. When it became clear that they were going to ditch the entire thing, I archived the entire site.

Lock, stock and barrel.

I put my archive online about four years ago, and I know that Google has indexed it because that is how I find articles on it. I still send links to people who ask about issues that were long ago solved.

If you want a trip down memory lane, check out [ this ]. If nothing else, it will make you really appreciate this new site!

Very cool. Now who has the keys to the "wayback machine"?

Well you old boob (and a smart one I might add), it only took me umm.. a short amount of time to acclimate myself to this new site.
And I think it's a great, love all the options.
Thank you W & A for your continuous efforts!

BUT, I have a question concerning the "like" thingy dodad. I am one of those fools who likes everyone, do I have to click that thing every time or is there some sort of "universal" like auto button?

Have a great weekend! B-)
