Recently retired BLM surveyor James William Hawke, Jr. Was ran over and left for dead in a hit and run accident in anchorage this weekend.

I never knew the man but he was well liked and respected by his colleagues. He was also well known for never having a drivers license and walking everywhere around anchorage. If you look at some of the comments in the linked article you will see that he was a bit of a local figure.

RIP James

That's heartbreaking. 4 years retired.

As far as the driver of the car detecting a slight pulse in Mr. Hawke before pulling him off the windshield and leaving him on the pavement to die while hustling home to hide his car under a tarp... well I can't really express my feelings about him properly without getting banned from the entire internet.

Read the article yesterday. No words to describe how wrong all of this is. Such a callous disregard for the life of another, who just happened to be a retired surveyor with a long and distinguished career, starting out on field crews and working his way to the top, to end like this...run over like a dog. On a side note. I detest driving in Anchorage mostly because of all the red light runners who value their seconds of time over the lives of everyone else. RIP

I'm very sad. I'm the main interviewed person, & gave the news his photos. Rest in Peace Hawke.

That had to be tough; you're a good man, Mike. I hope you are feeling better.

I took a hit Sunday Dugger. Scrambled after dog and never saw hangar door hinge. About scalped me & fell on asphalt. Put my lefthand out so not to hit my recently fused neck & broke 4 bones in my wrist & small bone in forearm. Got out of ER in time to attend James's burial. Other than that, everything festive.
