One of our party chiefs, Josh Chandler, passed away Tuesday from complications of a rare disease called Amyloidosis. After months of testing and wondering why certain enzyme levels were high in his liver, he was finally diagnosed last month and was told that his condition was terminal. Josh underwent several rounds of chemo therapy that seemed to only make the symptoms worse. Hospice was called in last Wednesday to help make Josh comfortable, and he finished his fight Tuesday afternoon at his home with his wife by his side.

Josh was a 35 year old loving husband, father to four beautiful girls, Veteran, friend, and future Land Surveyor. Like may so many of us, Josh‰Ûªs path into the profession was unique. He served in the Navy and was a crew member on a submarine. He later obtained a degree in Engineering Technology before realizing that he really liked digging for iron rods, closing traverses and working with a robotic total station. Josh was the kind of employee that set the pace that others followed, and his attitude and enthusiasm were contagious. Josh had big plans and intended to apply to take the Fundamentals this year. He wanted to get licensed, and I wanted to help him do it.

The man that Josh was embodies the heart and essence of what we as surveyors are. We come from varied backgrounds, like hard work, and enjoy finding the solution. Josh was taken from us too soon. It certainly has humbled me and put things back into perspective, affirming to me that our coworkers truly are our second family. See the link below for Josh‰Ûªs obituary. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. We lost a good one.

May God richly bless and comfort his family.
Just goes to show that tomorrow is not promised. Today is the day to get right with God and settle any differences we have with others, and tell our family that we love them.

Sound like our profession has missed a good one.

Codelances to this young man's family friends and co-workers. You just never know how much time you will be given, take stock of what you have and love those you know well with the time you have.
