We need to produce an exhibit (PDF format for a proposal) showing lidar data overlaid with aerial photography and maybe some of our topographic linework. Is special software needed to use lidar data (the data is available on our county's website)? Even if Civil 3D can import the data I don't have time to figure it out. I would rather subcontract it out to someone...any takers? Shoot me an email - need it COB today. Thx, Liz

Do you have [REDACTED]? You could import the LiDAR into GM then convert the data to a DXF. The latest and greatest versions of Microstation or Autocad can import LiDAR datasets. If you don't have any of the above, email one of my techs- [email protected] and we will see if we can help you.

Our software vendor is going to compile the data and send us a how-to of screenshots so we can do it ourselves in the future. I really appreciate the offer though.

Here is a link that will make you expert quickly and easily.
I would assume that your lidar data has a metadata header.
For those surveyors who think in 3-D, having the points in
3D is ok, but a 3D line really only needs to be viewed from above.
If you have the boundary points or lines in 3D, that is OK.
The presentation can be awesome in 3D.

Civil 3D is ok for surveying and engineering, but like an ATLA
survey, somebody like bankers or financiers has an higher motive.

When it comes to presentations, I use Google Express Pro movie
feature because they already have the 3D stuff in there. I also
use I-Mac Animator which will just mind-boggle your clients.

Thanks Paul. I have saved the document and bookmarked the website - looks like a useful resource.
