Okay, I am using Carlson Survey 2011 with AutoCAD 2007 embedded.
I have a GIS drawing (dwg) file with parcels, etc in Indiana State Plane East (feet).
I have found some nice aerial images here:

The file names for the images seem to be just what I am looking for to drop into my dwg file.
BUT, when I Xref one of the images at 0,0,0, well it comes in at 0,0,0.
SO... I "eyeballed" it into my dwg like this for now:

So, it apparently comes in at the proper scale (at least plenty close enough for my recon work). But I want these image files to automatically drop in at the correct coordinate position too, rather than try to guess which filename is the one I need and then "eyeball" where it goes.
Clear as mud?
Thanks, Brad
Hi Brad, Here's the Carlson 2010 help item on placing geo referenced tif images:
Place Image by World File
This routine is intended for users of Carlson products that do not have the AutoCAD Map platform. If you have the Map extension available, it is recommended that you use the tool provided.
This function allows you to insert Geo-Referenced TIF files into the drawings. This process requires the presence of an accompanying TFW file. The TFW file contains information about the location and scaling of the actual raster image TIF file. This eliminates the guesswork in inserting, moving, and rotating raster images to the project area. You begin by selecting the TFW or JGW file to process. If the related TIF file is present in the same directory, the image will be inserted into the proper coordinates.
Prompts
Select World File: choose existing .TFW or .JGW file
Pulldown Menu Location: GIS Tools
Keyboard Command: geotiff
Prerequisite: None
File Name: lspgis1.lsp
Hope it helps,
Peter
Thanks Peter. I will look at that.
Geotiff command and TFW files
Peter, I now owe Wendell and Angel a fat $ fee.
That was exactly what I needed.
Geotiff command and TFW files worked like a charm.
Beer Leg dot com R O C K S ! ! !
Thank you Peter !
Geotiff command and TFW files
Glad it worked out Brad.
That command is available from the GIS pulldown menu too.

Now you can tell everyone that your drawings are truly spatial...
