Me and SWMBO have a oceanfront condo in New Smyrna Beach. When there I am out on the beach at dawn for a walk and there is always some sort of marine activity raising hell just offshore. I've seen Whale sharks, schools of manta rays and huge schools of bluefish tearing up mullet and menhaden.
With my luck I'll crash it in the ocean before I get bored with it. 😎

I have to look to see if I can fly over the exciting part of the ocean near me... National Seashore.
The GNSS keeps the thing in one spot. If you let go of the stick it just hovers.

That would be cool.
First I am going to have to practice extensively because I want to launch and land off a third floor balcony. (8'x20')
That will take lot's of practice. You will likely need to launch in ATI mode. Which means no assistance from GPS or Compass. When launching from areas with a lot magnetic attraction and poor GPS single, often this the main reason for flight failure.
Saw everybody seems to be going for the phantom...just got this guy...Yuneec H520... designed specifically with surveying in mind...incredibly easy to fly manually or autonomously ... we will see how the data processes out...

I might as well just buy two. After I crash the first one I can use it for parts for when I crash the second one.;)

I just flew an area and processed through Drone Deploy (they have a free account). No control, no app on the drone to take the right number of photos with spacing (I will download it eventually) and it came out better than I could have expected.
I have given three people in the office the carrot: first one to get their 107 gets a raise. If I get through setting up for a presentation next month and my CEUs for CFM then get the 107 before any of them, they will be bumped down in pay thereby giving me the raise. A little carrot and a little fire...
I found this cheap solution to have a PPK drone .
Looks like it's back v2.0

One wonders why it went away in the first place. I'd like to have been a fly on the wall of DJI's boardroom.?ÿ It seems to me very much a "New Coke" situation.
DJI and others have hundreds of videos on YouTube. Why a P4 instead of Inspire??ÿ ?????ÿ
@flga
The Inspire is mostly a video drone and the Inspire also costs a lot more than P4.
Yes, the P4Pro is a must.
I started with Drone Deploy.?ÿ There are some decent papers and the results are OK.
I then went to Pix4d.?ÿ More robust, more options, the results are better.
I looked at Carlson's and I keep processing with Global Mapper hoping it will be more like Pix4d.
Are you running any Point Cloud Software??ÿ The data that comes out is great for open areas.
Hello. ?ÿImagery/scanning looks like the way of the present and future. ?ÿI spent about 3 years mostly testing UAS for Surveying. I got my 107, - it has now lapsed, as you basically have to retake the test every couple of years. ?ÿOut of the UAS loop for a year or more.
The potential of UAS is amazing and the air seems like the best perspective for many things. For me the risks and regulations have me looking terrestrial. ?ÿMy understanding is that you can??t fly over people, even in vehicles. ?ÿSome of these regulations, privacy and risk issues may be mitigated over time. ?ÿThis may be a good endeavor for younger folks, especially if you have a safe place to fly and test. ?ÿI had some local fields that were mostly unoccupied, and permission. ?ÿ
Happy flying!
