TL;DR

Feel free to just sigh and answer the poll, if you don't need/want the history or bullet points. ?????ÿ

-----

Here's some history/data for your consideration:

  • In June 2010, this website launched as BeerLeg.com
  • By August, we had determined that BeerLeg.com was being blocked in most corporate firewalls, so we changed the URL to SurveyorConnect.com
  • In 2016, all hell broke loose with a previous partner, who has since been outed. He created some bad juju with advertisers and users -- I wanted to distance myself from all that, so I changed the URL to rplstoday.com, but that was done mostly in haste and anger.
  • I've regretted that decision for a few years now.
  • With some other projects I'm working on, I'm establishing branding around Surveyor______ naming convention. So, in my feeble mind, it makes sense to go back to SurveyorConnect.com for the forum.
  • Note that the news part of RPLS Today will be going away with or without the name change. It's being moved to it's own dedicated website. This website will become forum-centric.
  • Also note that anytime I talk to surveyors that are regular users of this website, they commonly refer to it as BeerLeg or SurveyorConnect anyway. I do often receive suggestions to make it SurveyorConnect again.

?ÿ

All that considered, am I nuts for wanting to go back a step to the SurveyorConnect name? Or do you think it's a great idea? I'm open to comments, suggestions, feedback, ridicule, whatever. ???? ?????ÿ

Wendell, ah, that explains why I've been confused about the various site names.

@bruce-small

Yeah, in a way, I feel like I'd actually be removing a layer of confusion.

Is it practical to have all three domains point to the same IP address? Even if not permanently, that could smooth a transition.

It's your rodeo bruh!?ÿ Call it whatever you want although I think SurveyorConnect does a pretty good job of describing what this forum does ??¯?ÿ

I was kind of always cool on the "beerleg" moniker because I don't like to see the profession too closely identified with beer drinking.?ÿ I mean, I like a good beer now and then, but....

As far as between SurveyorConnect and RPLS Today... Is the SurveyorConnect logo'd coffee mug going to look as cool as the RPLS Today one does??ÿ?ÿ

I have always been cool ƒ??withƒ? the beerleg moniker.
And I havenƒ??t had a beer in seven years.
Who are we trying to impress besides ourselves?

@brad-ott

When I was fresh out of high school, before college and 10 years before my first day of surveying, I worked in a kitchen. The dishwasher's "boyfriend" was the town slobbering drunk. The place was open well past midnight serving the after hours bar crowd. "Lucky Eddy" was?ÿ always lurking around the back door at closing time, incoherent. We could always induce him to any of the dirtiest, most detestable, and degrading jobs (like cleaning the grease traps) for a beer. I never did it, but you know that he was often induced, by others more cruel, to do things that didn't really need doing but were just particularly degrading, for laughs.

So, since then, any time some co-worker asks me to do something - like come over and find their corners - for a beer, or a box of beer, or a truckload of beer, they have guaranteed that I will never, ever again so much as drive down the street they live on.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ

I know. An over-reaction.?ÿ Buts that's the image it gives me.

I like SurveyorConnect and I've always felt like RPLSToday is just a little too close to the name of that other site that died several years before they finally pulled the plug on it.

It's your business, not mine.?ÿ Do whatever will pay off in the best manner.

To a handful of people I still refer to it as Beerleg, first because it's shorter and second, because that was what it was when I first made reference to them about it.?ÿ I always say RPLS Today to anyone that I am encouraging to join in.?ÿ I guess I just sort of skimmed over Surveyor Connect.

I like having surveyor in the title but wonder if there is a better word than connect.?ÿ That sounds a bit like a dating service for surveyors.?ÿ Perhaps something like Land Surveying Today.
