Actually, I think that the Saxe-Coburg und Gotha refers to the duchy, not the family. The title only dates from the 1840's.

The main point is that the older generations of the British royal family are mainly of German ancestry. Mountbatten, for example, is an anglicization of Battenberg.
To deny ones heritage is silly. They may be considered English, but they are still German.

The English fired their Scottish King James II in the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and hired William III of Orange (Dutch). Queen Anne was a Stuart but most of her relatives were Roman Catholic so they could not ascend the throne due to the Settlement Act of 1701. George I was the first German King (from Hanover). After the Glorious Revolution, Parliament sets the succession and they can change it even today. There may be talk of removing the males first provision, for example.
Every time I see one of those TV shows about the British Royalty, it make me want to puke. At least in America, people who don't work, only make slightly more than i do.

It seems that the pecking order awareness is really ingrained in us.
Succession isn't totally automatic; parliament determines who will be King or Queen but it runs more on autopilot. Sort of like if the President was named by congress then they set in motion where it just stays in the President's family by a predetermined succession formula unless they decide to change it.

America has its own forms of Royalty, albeit unofficial Royalty. Official or not, society will still have a caste hierarchy where the lower end of the caste will be envious of the upper end.
That title reminds me of the preamble to the 1795 Treaty of San Lorenzo which, among other things, established the Southern boundary of the United States which divided their territory from the Spanish colonies of East and West Florida.

Sillyness about royalty is part of New Orleans Mardi Gras
The original intent and continuing theme is for the wealthy debutants to "come out." (It's the formal presentation to society that they are now eligible for marraige.) The krewes of Mardi Gras have elected Kings and Queens (that change each year), and all of the pomp and circumstance is for the debs when they promenade before the current King & Queen of the krewe and before the audience.
Throwing beads and favors in the parades before the balls mimics the royalty of europe throwing favors to the peasants.
Main difference with New Orleans, is that they are essentially making fun of the snotty royals of europe.
