The quality of the picture isn't so good, it was taken with my phone.?ÿ COE monument on the Clam Creek pier on Jekyll Island.
?ÿ
We surveyors are an odd lot.

"Ooooooooooooooo, baby. ?ÿWill you look at that one. ?ÿGotta take a pic to show the guys back home."

Such expressions of wonder should be for stumbling onto a shoot for Girls Gone Wild in Panama Beach on spring break.

Guilty here.
Probably get slapped just as hard by the wife for Ooooooing & Ahhhhing over the monument or the babes.
Found this about a month ago on the Skeleton Coast of Namibia:
I do this ALL THE TIME. Walking downtown, on vacation, out shopping with the wife....always. Hell, I even have her doing it some.
What's funny is when I drive past somewhere I've done some field work, I like to remind everyone in the car that, "I surveyed that." ??ÿ
It's like after taking a graduate class in Botany, about mushrooms.?ÿ I'm constantly stopping for them too, and find and identify them out of a peripheral view radar or homing beacon.?ÿ In Japan i get whip lash from all the various and seemingly excessive monumentation present.
It is a real distraction........fun though it may be.....
While walking SWMBO?ÿhas learned that the slightest hint of florescent pink to enter my peripheral vision often results in me suddenly and without warning, changing directions. It use to annoy her when she would suddenly find herself talking to herself while I wonder off for a closer inspection of some survey porn, but she got over it when I explained that survey porn was so much healthier for our relationship?ÿthan the real thing.
Wife & kids have my number.?ÿ We can be driving down a road and I'll say "See that over there?", and along with an obligatory eye roll, one of them will say "I know.?ÿ You surveyed that."?ÿ Or we may be walking along a street, road, trail, or even a DisneyLand walkway and I'l say "come look at this!" as I'm inspecting something near my feet and one of them will say "Let me guess... You found a survey point, right?"
I can look at it as they've taken all the fun out of it since there's no longer any wonderment in their responses, or I can look at it as a victory when I get an extra eye roll by being insistent that they look.?ÿ I choose victory!
I'm always in that mode. Ever vigilant or just plain observant?
Bought back a number of photos of marks from Hawaii including a spike with pretty tape I found on the ground on Diamond Head.?ÿ
But! Have you ever thought what a surgeon thinks as he wanders the streets or sits on the side walk sipping skinny lattes watching the world (past patients) go by. Oh dear! Mind boggles!?ÿ

Wendell is NOTORIOUS for this!!! ??ÿ ?
OK, where should I take my next vacation to see the world's greatest survey markers.
Last year I posted what I saw at the Alamo in San Antonio.
Japan.?ÿ You'll be completely immersed in control everywhere, and won't even realize you're on vacation,?ÿ Youre Welcome!

Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina. There are triangulation stations near the top.
This morning Mrs. Cow was telling about the PK control nail she has noted in a pavement crack in the parking lot of the public swimming pool she visits several times per week. ?ÿShe has the desire to call out to anyone nearby to come look at the nail so she can tell them all about the world of surveying. ?ÿShe has not done that..................yet.
