We had a sorta interesting morning today.... Matt and Jim, one of our crews went out this morning to set up a GPS base station and came across a damaged pickup truck with a wheel torn off from a collision with a guard rail ...they stopped to see if the person inside needed assistance ....the person inside pulled a gun so Matt and Jim took off running....they radioed us at base camp a few hundred feet away and we called the police... Me and one of our other guys ran outside across the Lot as the road with the damaged pickup truck crossed in front of the lot and we could see the cop car approach... when the cop got close by the guy in the truck opened fire on him and the cop sped through over a bridge to take cover....two more cop cars showed and then a gun fight ensued....the guy dumped a clip of ammunition at the cops who were sheltering behind their car doors but I saw one officer crumple to the ground...about 5 seconds later the cops returned fire on the cab of the truck with glass, smoke, debris flying off all over. Maybe 12 to 15 shots...I don't see how he could have survived the barrage...One of the cops helped his buddy up and he leg hopped him to a squad car and drove out backwards to the hospital that was nearby...Matt and Jim hit the ground when the Cops opened fire as they were inline on the other side of the truck....
about ten minutes later we heard a single shot fired...he ended up killing himself...

Glad your crew got away without harm, also glad that your curiosity didn't turn out bad.

Well your guy's didn't get any credit in the news release. Surveyors are unsung heroes.

That would definitely have been one of those times where doing your flaming machete twirling and dancing would have turned out more like the guy in the Indiana Jones movie who brought a sword to a gun fight.

Before I read the post, I thought it might have been about a poster from Mark Deal's original board who went by the alias of Bad Guy. He seemed to be a real PIA.

My colleague video'ed up close, clear and stable footage of the entire fire fight, but we can not post it at the moment

I remember that guy! One of the first internet trolls I experienced. Always kicking the dog, just to hear him yelp.
