That's a pleasant summer day around here. We don't get cranky until it's over 100?ø.

Something a bit hotter in Portland. It happens here, but not usually until July or August. Luckily not very humid.

Here in OK I try to get my field work done before the mercury hits 95?ø or 100?ø. That means getting out there early and usually quitting around 2 PM.

As the summer progresses that "early time" gets shorter and shorter. By the last two weeks of August I will probably be forced to just simply take a week or two off.

Those of use who live in warm climates know that the Heat Index is the number to pay attention to. For example, when the air temp is 100?øF and the relative humidity is 50%, how hot does it feel?

Many moons ago, my parents took my brother and me for a two or so week sightseeing in CO, AZ and general area. In AZ, we experienced temps 100+. Having grown up in New England, it amazed me how well perspiration was able to perform it's intended function.... of cooling. Hoped in a lake and needed a towel to dry off at about 100 due to the evaporation effect.

We passed through one town and there were a couple "older" folks (guessing 80s perhaps) who were whining and complaining about the atrocity and how miserable the 15% humidity was. We were so dumbstruck we didn't have much to say... but really, that was nothing, whatsoever compared to 80% or higher humidity combined with 90-100 degree temps. Like when one has to swim to their car it's so humid. And preferably have a boat-car sometimes.

It was 117 in St George where I was delivering equipment on Thursday and Friday. I pulled stakes early at 3:00 pm on Friday and headed home to Salt Lake where it is only in the mid 90's. I started at 6:00 am on Friday and by 6:30 it was already miserable. I burned through three bags of ice each day even with my 'good' cooler. Even though the humidity is less than 20% it still is tough. Plus it is hard to drink a bottle of water every 30 minutes.

The extra 30 degrees really puts the screws on your day. But I hate to complain as it is even hotter in Vegas and Phoenix. I used to work reasonably well in the 105's but those days may be past.

Next time I am wearing short pants. I don't care if it unprofessional anymore.

I'm sure glad that's over, the last 2 days have been brutal. The high temperature in Seattle yesterday was 8?øf higher than the previous record. It was hotter than it had been in the last 3 years.

I feel for you guys that deal with that every day.

I have a question for you; if it's going to be 120?ø, do you work that day?

It's going to be 20?ø cooler today; a good day to be a Surveyor.

I hope everyone has a great day, I know I will.

Only indoors. At my age the high nineties are where I cease (just because I can). From time to time later in the year the hunnerts catch me, but not for very long.

When its 35, raining sideways and you are out on the 1%'s dock to see if it extends beyond the inner harbor line; I remember days like this, and think to my self that the world is just fine.

I like the summer and hot days. It's the whining and complaining that's makes it unbearable. 😀

I'd take that over 100 any day...

I can dress for that and be comfortable; it's hard to dress for 100 and be comfortable.
