Back and Forth or Circular Motion, how do you mow your lawn?

I'll be back later and let you know how I finished mine off.....;-)

Cheers,

Duggie

I prefer the back and forth (John L. Scott) method, but honestly I seem to always end up doing the circular with a few crossing lines to divide up the work and make it less monotonous.

To get the edges and to keep from blowing grass into the street, I go circular for two laps. Then I go back and forth.

I will switch things up. Circular a time or two, back and forth, then forth and back. But not today, about 40 degrees too hot... high for the day was about 103..... heat index put my area up to 109 or so.....

I made a deal awhile back with my three amigos. They wont try to survey the bridges and I wont try to cut my own grass.

I have a 4 week cycle.

Back and forth
Up and down
bottom right to top left (N45W)
bottom left to top right (N45E)

Start over again.

I would love to not cut that fool stuff. The only problem is that some idiot would report me to the county for having an unkempt lawn (county says 3 inches is max)

Some interesting patterns there, DDSM; as my mower needs to be plugged in, I thought I was destined to only mow back and forth. The Zig Zag Grid or the Peano Curve look like they might be doable I'll have to check this out next week.....B-)

It's starting to warm up here too, 75f and sunny, supposed to be sunny all week and maybe up in to the low 80's a couple days.....

Cheers,

Dugger

What lawn?

I have trees and rocks and sticks and moss... I get the weed eater about about twice a year.

Condo life = no grass cutting.

I actually try to follow a Karoly cycle but usually fall short in my efforts due to some landscaping features that make the diagonal patterns difficult. Typically, back and forth one time then circular the next and sometimes a combination just to try to keep the mowing pattern random.

Parts of our front yard have a 50% grade so I pay Valincia $40 to mow it. The back yard is flatter so I make one lap around the perimeter then go back and forth.

Next spring, I plan to put out 50 square yards of Zoysia sod in a checker board pattern, then apply 100 lbs of 13-13-13 fertilizer and plenty of water. That stuff spreads pretty quickly.

Mrs. Cow hands the neighbor a few pieces of green paper with pictures of presidents on them. No fuss, no muss. No big decisions such as back and forth or circular to worry about. BTW, too many obstructions to be consistent about much of any pattern.

Circular with a rider on a large area. Back and forth on postage stamp sized area.
