Some may know that I have again left the employ of the City of Lawton. But this time is was to follow my heart. I'm engaged now and living in a beautiful town called Paducah, Kentucky. Founded by William Lewis of Lewis in Clark fame. My Nancy and I at the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee rivers.
Of course, even downtown is not immune to pincushions. Found this 1/2" square rod with a PK just a short distance away.
Went to the train museum yesterday and drove the real time train simulator. Very cool indeed and had a retired engineer explaining all the signs and how to operated the controls. We had a lot of fun!
Complete with deer on the tracks, changing at frogs, stations and vehicle crossings. We both loved to blow that horn.
Going to use the NGS app on the phone this morning and hunt some NGS points. 🙂 For this Deral treat then I will also go with Nancy to the National Quilt museum.
The area is much older than Lawton so I'm excited about historical searching around town. Every Saturday night they close a street for a festival of arts. Love the improv group that always puts on a show and the great live bands.
A very nice old flathead ford that is stil in service delivering baked goods to the Farmers Market yesterday. We got a peach pie and lathered it up later with creamy vanilla ice cream.

PK Pincushion In Paducah ?
Questions:
Is the square rod hiding somewhere in that hole?
Is that a PK or a Mag? It makes a difference in my field notes. PKs generally have more seniority.
Did you check out the sight lines? That PK may be an offset to get past a building or a traverse point for a street project.
Is this a one or two bike trip?

Deral,
Welcome to God's country.
I may be working on the new bridge job on Hwy. 60 across the Tennessee River tomorrow, will be on the east side across the river. If you are out riding around, head east on 60 just outside the edge of town, cross the bridge (it's got a 3 ton wt. limit, can't even cross it with my pickup) and go about a half mile to the new construction on the right. Turn in there and go out to the new grade, if I'm there I'll be setting some flags for cement treatment to begin sometime this week. I'll be the only surveyor in site in a white GMC 3/4 ton with tool boxes and a fuel tank. You can just ride in on the job, it's wide open.

PK Pincushion In Paducah ?
Paul-There is a rod in the hole but the cell phone just didn't get a good enough picture. The nail is a mag nail. We were just walking around downtown and I'm not surveying. Occupational hazard to just look down.
Eddy- I might just look you up Eddy. We still have a lot of stuff to get down before she starts her last year of college. I did get my Kentucky drivers license last week but still need my tags. I heard they are closed on Monday though because of a furlough to employees.
We are about to head out to search for some survey markers. LOL
"Everyone's girlfriend loves to search for survey monuments"...Said no girlfriend ever.
Congratulations! Glad to see everything is happy and well!
You might actually like the quilt museum 😉
Y'all have a great Sunday! B-)
You are about 4 hours from me. My son lives in Clarksville, not too far. Paducah is a nice town.
That would be William Clark.
FWIW, Meriwether Lewis's grave is about 3 hours southeast on the Natchez Trace.
Love will make you do silly things......:-$
I love the murals. I spent a couple of weeks here with Nancy a few months ago. Love it then and love it now.
I'm still shocked by the lack of oversight by Nancy's parents that would allow such an innocent young thing to run around with a grizzled surveyor. They need to sign up for remedial parenting lessons.

That's funneh, HC! (Who thinks HC is jealous?!)

Deral never had a chance, she's wearing day-glo pink flip-flops & matching t-shirt, what surveyor wouldn't be head over heels.:-D
:bad:
Welcome to Kentucky. Join the local association (kaps1.com) and I'll hope to see you at a statewide meeting soon. I've been all over the world and Kentucky is my favorite place.
Dang it.
No comeback from Deral, yet. Hope I didn't hurt his feelings with my comment above. No harm intended. Just poking a little fun his way.:bye:

He has a hide that would make an alligator jealous. Not much worry there.

Dang it.
“Hope I didn't hurt his feelings…”
Naaah.. He’s in love, Most Holy Methaneness, thus oblivious to everything except Nancy. 😉
Have a great week! B-)

I second the motion!
Drove by yesterday morning Eddy but there was a lot of heavy truck traffic coming out from the construction site. We didn't want to take the bike in with all that dust and traffic. Got gas and took a break at the little store just past the turn in to the site and would be glad to buy you a cup of joe if you let me know when you might be there. It's a short ride from our house. We burned three tanks of gas on the harley yesterday and Kentucky has some excellent hill riding areas. I like southern Illinois also but the roads were very rough along the Ohio scenic route.
