Well this week I am getting a new border collie, he was raised in Kentucky on a farm where they train to be cattle dogs. He is a black and white male, 12 months old.
I'm siked about having a dog, I'm a person who really appreciates having a dog around the house, plus it is a good alarm system too.
My wife is already talking about nixing his doo dads but he is suposed to have really good DNA and it seems kind of a shame, sadly I am guessing this will have to be done also, (sorry ahead of time pal).
While he is a handsome devil, his name is the same as a person that I am not too fond of and so I really need to officially change his name, tough call, but it has to be done.
So that being said...I am looking at potential names, any ideas?
Why would you want to change his name from Wendell to anything else? 😉
he looks like a Jake or a Ryder to me:-)
Bandit.
Going with John Wayne it has to be "DOG" !
I like human names. I named my boxer Jack, but we usually call him Jackie.
"Border Collie names should be fun and exciting, just like almost all Border Collies are. These dogs have loads of energy and an uncanny ability to want to work hard and play hard, so your new Border Collie’s name should no doubt reflect these personality traits." > Border collie website...
I like one syllable names, like Flash! (good border collie name)
Boss might be good since that's what they are!
Loved my Border Collie, wonderful dogs...

Ranger: A fitting name for a dog that loves the great outdoors and is happiest while running, playing, and working hard.
Scout: A perfect matching moniker for an energetic Border Collie that loves to “find” things, or is always on the hunt.
Sheep: Or “Sheepy,” this is a fun play on words for a dog that was originally trained to herd sheep.

Pete
"Blue" after the Bluegrass State where he was born.
I was gonna say Pete but you beat me to it.

Border Collie's as noted above are high energy dogs that need the room to use that energy. They do not usually do well when confined and forced to live a life of confinement. Often they will trash a house and its furnishings out of frustration from being left alone and being confined. Usually not the dogs problem but the owner caused reaction from obtaining a working dog that was bred to work using that high energy and endurance. A walk a day won't do the trick, he needs more. If what you said about a dog around the house is just as it sounds, don't get that breed of dog, neither one of you will be happy and you will soon be looking for a way to get rid of him, again, not the dogs fault. Nice looking dog, they usually get attached to one person and want to be with them, they are highly intelligent and easily bored if not used for something other than a pet. Have had several over the years, some will work cows and enjoy it, others are more timid and still want to work, they make good sheep dogs. Most will when you saddle up be right there and stay with you all day. Could send them into the brush, draw or canyon and save you and the horse from going after each cow, they would bring them out together. One, the minute you looked at him to tell him what a good dog he was, he quit and went home. Never got over that, guess he thought he was in trouble, not a problem unless you had help from someone who couldn't resist talking to the dog. For yours and the dogs sake think long and hard about whether he is the right breed for you to own.
jud
What a cutie!
I'd name him "Tongue" 😉
Have a great week and enjoy the pup
Jud my last BC passed a few months ago. Good advice though.
Spaz
Walker - as in Texas Ranger.
Hondo
Oreo!! Everyone likes 'em!!
snoop I always get a kick out of your ever changing avatar but this latest twist is just pure genius..a stroke of mad brilliant genius.
John Wayne starred in a movie named Hondo....you have to check out the scene at 0:55
Names are important
I'm firmly of the belief that, given time, the dog will earn it's own name
"Dog", "Pup" or "Hey You" will do well enough for now 🙂
He looks like a Bullet to me. :dog:
