A man was walking down the street when he was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless man who asked him for a couple of dollars for dinner.
The man took out his wallet, extracted ten dollars and asked, "If I give you this money, will you buy some beer with it instead of dinner?"
"No, I had to stop drinking years ago," the homeless man replied.
"Will you use it to go fishing instead of buying food?" the man asked.
"No, I don't waste time fishing," the homeless man said. "I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive."
"Will you spend this on greens' fees at a golf course instead of food?" the man asked.
"Are you NUTS!" replied the homeless man. "I haven't played golf in 20 years!"
"Will you spend the money on a woman in the red light district instead of food?" the man asked.
"What disease would I get for ten lousy bucks?" exclaimed the homeless man.
"Well," said the man, "I'm not going to give you the money. Instead, I'm going to take you home for a terrific dinner cooked by my wife."
The homeless man was astounded. "Won't your wife be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty and I probably smell pretty disgusting."
The man replied, "That's okay. It's important for her to see what a man looks like after he has given up beer, fishing, golf and sex."
Homeless - Fed by Grandpa!!
Hahaha funny... 😛
Reminds me of my grandpa...he use to bring homeless people home mom said...and my grandma would make them a home cooked meal, let them shower, etc... my grandparents gave them a change of clothes and shoes, a sack lunch, and grandpa would put some $$ in their pocket and send them on their way. When they owned their restaurant, they fed many of people for free... Ahhh...gives me warm fuzzies thinking about them that way. 🙂
another wife story
A man was leaving a convenience store with his morning coffee when he
noticed a most unusual funeral procession approaching the nearby
cemetery. A black hearse was followed by a second black hearse about 50
Feet behind the first one. Behind the second hearse was a solitary man
walking a dog on a leash. Behind him, a short distance back, were about
200 men walking single file.
The man couldn't stand the curiosity. He respectfully approached the man
walking the dog and said:
"I am so sorry for your loss, and this may be a bad time to disturb you,
but I've never seen a funeral like this. Whose funeral is it?"
"My wife's."
''What happened to her?"
"She yelled at me and my dog attacked and killed her."
He inquired further, "But who is in the second hearse?"
The man answered, "My mother-in-law. She was trying to help my wife when
the dog turned on her."
A very poignant and touching moment of brotherhood and silence passed
between the two men.
"Can I borrow the dog?"
The man replied, "Get in line."

Very funny, Nate. 😛 :dog:
I was just sitting down to eat a steak and cheese sub w/ gravy fries and a large shake when this homeless guy cam up and said, " Did you know I haven't eaten in a two days?"
I said, " Boy, I wish I had your will power!"
I remember men coming to the back doors in the 40's and early 50's asking if there was some work they could do in exchange for a meal. Some split wood, others hoed the garden or used the sheep sheers around the yard where the mower could not reach or sometimes nothing, all got a very good meal, all chose to eat it outside and cleaned their plate leaving with a thank you. That would happen occasionally clear up to 59 when I went into the service, after I was discharge people had changed.
jud
I can remember a few occasions where that happened at our house when I was little (pre-1960). We were fairly close to the railroad tracks. They were provided for. Some, if not all, helped do something before leaving.

God bless you and your grand parents.
Good folks all the way around.
Warm fuzzies are good.

I haven't thought about that time (only in the movies for me as I was only 5 in 1959). But it makes you think about those guys standing on the street corner begging. I'd sure rather get some wood split for my donation to them.
Also, when I was younger (in the 70's) guys could go to the unemployment office and people needing work (spot jobs) done would go there and hire you on the spot to come rake or help on the farm or around the house for money they would pay directly to the workers. Now a spot job has to come from a private company that charges the employer for your time and pays the worker minimum wage; making money for farming out the work.
Sometimes the spot jobs would turn into permanent work if the worker was good and the employer needed more work done. What a good way to interview for a job working for someone for a day and they can offer you a job or not depending on how you do.
It sure would be nice to have a way for people to work for others directly for a day for a meal or a few extra bucks. It's sad that there is work that needs to be done and people willing to do it with no way of getting in contact easily.
Sorry, just kind of thinking as I type if it sounds a little convoluted.
