I've been to CA's high point.?ÿ It's a pretty strenuous hike, and I was humbled by the knowledge that in the 1930s a USC&GS crew ran First Order levels to the top.

About 20,000 feet difference between the lowest "high" point and the highest high point.?ÿ Pretty amazing.

Satellite images sure do make for some neat ways to waste a bunch of time.?ÿ White Butte ND looked really neat from the satellite image.

I know where the highest point in Florida is located.?ÿ It's in the recreation room of the house owned by a certain retired surveyor not too far from Orlando.

Some photos of that effort here:

That particular one is dated June 1928.

The one in charge. I wasn't born until 31 years later if the date cited is correct.

Hard to tell which ones in charge, but in those days I'm going with the guy bent over looking like he's taking notes, second guess is I-man , third is umbrella holder. in my career sometimes the crew chief would assume the rodman position once he got an I-man and note keeper that he could trust, to make sure that part was done right and broke up some of the monotony, One crew I was on in the 80's wouldn't let me touch the gun, even though they knew how much experience i had, until we were doing a topo (T-1 & stadia) in an open area in February in the Hudson Valley, then they wanted to be the ones running around keeping warm.

?ÿ

As far as the date I was only 30 years from the cited one, God I feel old.

Had a native of Florida tell me the highest point there was growing as it was at the top of a enormous landfill that was still growing closer to the clouds each day.

The highest natural topographical places in FL are Britton Hill and Sugarloaf "Mountian". ?????ÿ

FYI: The largest quantity of methane pollution comes from just North of OK. aka Kansas. And we import more bananas from Guatemala than any other Country.

@flga-2-2?ÿ

Floridians are so unfamiliar with mountains they can't even spell the word correctly.

The only time a Kansan sees a mountain in Kansas is when watching some old Western supposedly set in Kansas but with rugged mountains in the scenery and the action.

They might as well put ocean front scenes in Arizona.

My friend's Uncle Gene, in his 70's, had touched the high point in all 50 states. By far the easiest was Florida. Denali was a long process, he failed a few times before actually getting to the top. A few were tricky: private land; on the boarder between 2 states; but he documented each trip.

Going to the lowest point in each state would generally require a scuba suit.?ÿ Not always, though.

The lowest point in California, and the US, Badwater Basin in Death Valley, is only 85 miles from Mount Whitney and in the same county of Inyo. It is listed as elevation -282' (no datum referenced, but likely NGVD29).
