May you all have a safe and fulfilling celebration!

I will my brotha and you too, my regret is that blacks are relegated to celebrating their racial history for only one month of the year while all other ethnicitys have the entire 12 months.
It's not really a fair system.

Look at it from the other side. There are no white/red/yellow history months, no white/yellow/red college funds, no white/yellow/red awards, no white/yellow/red entertainment television.
Actually, sounds more than fair, in fact it sounds like reverse something to me.
Happy Black History month.
The contributions by Black's to our American history are extensive and great. We should all celebrate as one nation.

Look man snoop is a hellova good friend, frankly it never has bothered me one little bit that he is black. We joke about it because we are friends and can see past the color of our skintone. However, I commend him for taking black history month as the opportunity to show his true color so to speak, and to highlight the significance of BHM.
I could get into a discussion about starting white college fund or white entertainment television but I don't really think it is respectful during black history month.
ASA LAMA LAKA my brother.
Dang, y'all have National Surveyors Week, isn't that enough?

Nothing about the black individual bother me. It's the collective that tend to pi$$ me off. Same with different classes of whites/mexicans, you pick it, they've got a group that pi$$ me off.
KM
Snoop's black?
Not that it matters, but the idea never occurred to me.
Zora Neale Hurston
Her books are a great read!! I wish I could have met her. There is a yearly festival in Eatonville FL. That celebrates her contribution to literature.
Have a great week! 🙂

Snoop is just as much a redneck as I am. I've never met him in person, but I've spoken with him on the phone. He's good people for sure. Whether his skin is black or not, I don't know, but he sounds like me and thinks like me. He's good as gold.
My best friend when I started college at SFA was a guy named Tommy Session.
Tommy had just finished 8 years in the military. He was a black as the ace of spades, 6'8", 315 pounds, and about 4% body fat.
He also wore Tony Lama boots, drove a 4wd pick up and wore wranglers and a straw hat.
Black's didn't like him cause he didn't act black and whites didn't like him cause he was BLACK (blackest dude I ever saw).
He was and is my friend. Don't lump me in the racist bandwagon without vetting why my comments are the way they are.

Land surveyor, astronomer, mathematician, inventor...
There is a Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum here in Maryland. Never been there myself though.
I'm a white dude, have been my whole life. I have mixed feelings about Black History Month. It seems to defeat the purpose of letting a man stand on his own merits when you deem an entire month to remember why he was made to feel separate in the first place. On the other hand I get that many of the accomplishments of the black man were swept under the rug and went without acknowledgement for much of this country's history. I see both sides of it.
I grew up in the deep south....most of my friends were black....I was white...still am...I don't think we really noticed then. We hunted, played football, baseball and wrestled. We ate good food....neckbones and rice, liver pudding, hog head cheese, boiled peanuts, fried rabbit, squirrel and dumplings and lots of collard greens. Somewhere along the line we separated and I've never seen those friends again. I'm not too much in favor of a history month but I do miss those times....and my friends.
if we quit talking about race it largely becomes a problem of the past. never completely but look how much things have faded in the last 50 years.
i grew up in the south in the 70s. the N word was common place. i have used it. i ain't proud of it. i try to teach my kids better than i was taught. i will try to teach them to judge a man by the content of his character.
every man has his value. some more than others.
