I'm on the G2 team!
Zebra X-701 is my favorite pen as it works well on regular paper, rite-in-the-rain paper, and metal bearing tree tags. Unfortunately, it is only available in black ink.

Sharpie ultra fine point retractable or not.
Won't run in the rain, writes on mylar and metal. Can't be used on wet surfaces.
Pilot Acroball:
As a lefty, it's been my experience that these are the best.

I prefer retractable pens. This here is what I have used for the last 10 years...
?ÿ
I really like the TUL pens from Office Depot/Max, but the 0.7mm is to bold. The colors are great and bright, but the 0.7mm is just to bold, and they do not make a red option in 0.4 or 0.5 (and if they do it is only with the 16 assorted color pack, and I only need 3 or 4).?ÿ
Normans story reminds me of an old shop where they wanted you to write your hours in pencil and then sign in ink.
Funny how some can be a stickler for the rules and spirit of legal land surveying and then walk right over up to or over the line on financial and labor rules.
I like Pentel ENERGEL 0.5 Needle Tip, although the barrel breaks over time and in the general case I like Papermate and Zebra products as well.
Pentel ENERGEL are popular in my office with the boss, so I am trying to choose another one. I do like the bright red and blue though.?ÿ
Cheap, retractable, pocket clip, improved grip and oil based black ink (no gel, rollerball or waterbased). The brand changes every time I order a new box.?ÿ
I have always been a big fan of the Pilot G2 pens as well, but recently I have moved over to the TruRed brand Quick Dry Gel Retractable Pen in 0.7 tip found at Staples. You can get them off Amazon too in all three main colors. The thing that always bothered me a little about the G2s was the rubber area can get sticky if left in the hot sun inside a truck.?ÿ
