I just got a call from a computer about my ƒ??new car extended warrantyƒ??.?ÿ
then, land line rang. Some funky name, local number. Some aggressive/assertive female voice said ƒ??do not hang up...ƒ?

?ÿ

life is back to normal.?ÿ

I haven't let the land line go because it is associated with the DSL internet.?ÿ I hardly ever get a useful call on it.?ÿ Today I think I've had calls from "The Social Security Department", an insurance outfit, "The Warranty Department", and something else I've forgotten.?ÿ All either sounded like recordings or had a foreign accent.

Two were dead air because, I suppose, they call multiple numbers at the same time and talk to the first one to answer so they don't waste their agents' valuable time.

Yesterday I had an unusual one that I wasn't sure was recorded or live at first so I played along.?ÿ I finally figured out it was a smart enough computer to respond reasonably if I answered questions yes or no and other simple answers.?ÿ I started saying things that didn't fit the pattern and it would repeat the question but not respond like a human would, and it finally hung up.

Way back in 1998-99 my daughter was head over heels for a fellow.?ÿ Then things changed.?ÿ Have not seen him since 1999.?ÿ He apparently does not have good relations with quite a number of people who have been trying to nail his jello butt to the wall for something for years.?ÿ Somehow my landline number was put down as being HIS phone number.?ÿ I have probably had at least 50 calls about his need to do something or else.?ÿ Today I received a call from a lady who said she was a process server and was heading my way to deliver a summons for him to appear in some court somewhere.?ÿ She actually listened when I explained I had not seen him since 1999 and had no idea if he was alive or dead.?ÿ I told her the town where I think his parents still live and suggested she track them down.?ÿ She thanked me for the information.?ÿ What is comical is that in 1999 this landline was connected to a single phone setting atop a used clothes dryer inside the garage.?ÿ There was no occupant in the house nor did it even look as though there might be as it was unfinished except for one room.?ÿ This was my emergency phone for when I was doing farm work on my parent's property.

It's unfortunate, but have to let any call I get from a number that is not in my contact list go to voicemail. If you wish to talk to me on the phone, leave a message there. I'll add you to my contact list.

The latest onslaught I'm receiving is a female digital voice telling me Amazon has charged my "account" $295 and the package has been returned.?ÿ There is no such account.?ÿ She tells me I need to call immediately and verify all my account information with them.

I'm sure if I called they would want me to tell them all my banking info and CC number.?ÿ I'm not falling for it.?ÿ Cheap ass crooks plain and simple.?ÿ Wish I could reach through the phone line and strangle whoever is responsible.

Yep, that's the one I couldn't remember when posting above.

One of my favorites is the little lady from Southeast Asia who informs me that she is with my television company.?ÿ At that point I cut her off and tell her I have a big, old fashioned antenna mounted above my house and do not use any form of pay-for-it television service.?ÿ CLICK?ÿ It is the truth.?ÿ We get too many channels for free.

A guy in our writers group published a "quirky humor" novel and is working on a sequel, both with the premise that telemarketers are working for the devil to steal your life and soul a few seconds at a time, and every night download the bits of soul to hell using an app that runs under Windows.

Another regular caller is from any one of a thousand "extended car warranty" companies.?ÿ LISTEN TO ME, PEOPLE.?ÿ I DO NOT OWN A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 200,000 MILES ON IT WHICH IS THE UPPER LIMIT TO QUALIFY FOR YOUR COVERAGE.?ÿ TAKE ME OFF YOUR CALL LIST.?ÿ IF I EVER BUY ONE WITH LESS THAN THAT MILEAGE ON IT, YOU WILL BE THE FIRST PERSON I CALL.?ÿ HELL WILL HAVE FROZEN OVER FIRST, BUT, PLEASE SIT BY YOUR PHONE AWAITING MY CALL.

BTW, the lowest mileage operable vehicle on my property has 239,000 miles on it.

Same here.?ÿ I probably get 1 legit call for every 20 spam calls.?ÿ And I regularly get texts from people who want to know if I would like to sell my house on Fancy Court in Las Vegas.?ÿ The house is owned by a James R. Frame; I'm James H. Frame.?ÿ I guess James R. is hard to find, but my name is all over the Internet, apparently with phone number attached.

solar panels and cash offers on a house i haven't owned in 15 years.?ÿ that's the bulk of the ones i get lately.?ÿ oh, and AT&T trying to sell me MORE stuff- because getting the equivalent of my 2005 mortgage payment every month just isn't enough, apparently.

I have received numerous voice messages and texts telling me I can refinance my student loan.?ÿ I haven't answered any, but if I ever do I'm going to ask them what took so long, I'm 63, had 1 year of college, never had a student loan, nor did any of my kids.

On another note, does anybody else notice that if you check your texts or emails, or make a call on your cell, shortly after that you get a call from some scam outfit.?ÿ It seems to be a pattern for me, like they monitor phone activity.

@holy-cow

That's as bad as Joe Namath hawking a medicare supplement on all 14 trillion tv channels. The old fart looks like Howdy Doody with a bad botox job. ?????ÿ

There is a novel I found interesting where all the spammers were dealt with as competition by the daemon created by a crazy genius.?ÿ
