Heard about a cajun music jam down at Arnaudville, LA on Bayou Teche. Grabbed my fiddle and drove down. Stumbled into raw cajun music undisturbed and untainted from the outside. Sort of remarkable. I haven't played a lot of cajun music on my fiddle, but I am going to start. Video below. Sounds much better with headset.
Thank you. It's great to see genuine people playing genuine music.
Thanks Frank. That was pleasant.

AIIIEEEE!!!! Laissez Bontemp Roullet (sp?) I developed a liking for both Cajun and Zydeco about 35 years ago when I lived in Houston. My next door neighbors were "99 carat Coonass", their words not mine.

my favorite is that raw chanky chank sound when 2 fiddles sound like they are in a cat fight but when you really listen there is a incredible rondo and counterpoint happening.

I liked this Amanda Shaw Video you posted a few years back....

AND thanks for that too.
Here is one with a Zydeco flavor:

Yes she is a real entertainer in the Doug Kershaw vein of Cajun fiddle music.
You got to love the originals like fiddlers Dewey Balfa and Canray Fontenot

and some say that this guy was the real catylyst of cajun/creole music.
The Surveyors Historical Society held its spring Board of Directors meeting at the Museum of Measurement and Time in Jefferson, Texas on Saturday, April 28. By Monday, April 30, most of the board members were in the Salvador Wildlife Management Area south of New Orleans tearing down a Bilby tower.
That meant Sunday, April 30 was a travel day and, as it happens, Arnaudville, Louisiana is, more or less, on the way from Jefferson, Texas to New Orleans. And, as luck would have it, April 30 was the last day of the 2012 Arnaudville Etouffee Festival.
My son, Ben, accompanied me on the trip. He pronounced the crawfish etouffee excellent.
Performing on the stage while we were there was Wayne Toups and ZydaCajun.

Amazing coincidence!!
The music you saw is Zydeco. It is obviously also Cajun. But as you can see, it varies substantially from the traditional cajun music. Both are great.
I wonder if Wayne Toups is related to Prosper J. Toups III, Land Surveyor?
