2 stroke, hit and miss.

Kick start.

And, it's a MAYTAG!

Um, not really, but they are great for history lessons, and mechanics lessons. How many of you have actually seen somebody do the laundry with a 2 stroke, hit and miss engine? I have not. But, that aughta be at the county fair!

The ones that I remember ran on natural gas. They're pretty much bullet-proof.

The real prize in that set-up is the magneto that is under the aluminum flywheel. There is enough juice in there to start that motor, everything in the parking lot and still rip a hole in your britches.

PS - I guess Nate's Christmas shoppin' on craigslist for the Little Woman.;-)

Nate I did see an ice cream maker that ran on a John Deere ("Model E?) single cylinder engine. It powered a belt that turned two churns at the same time.

Cool stuff, huh? I saw a hit and miss power saw. It had an arm, and moved back and forth, using a cross cut saw to cut trees that were laying on the ground.
200 lbs, by my guess. It had wheels to roll it to the next log!

Yes, I have seen one running on gasoline in the late 40's, used by an Aunt at their place located above the Umatilla Indian Reservation on the Umatilla River. Think there was a hand crank wringer mounted on it and a couple of tubs for rinsing took care of the washing. We had an electric one with a powered wringer, Mom's tubs were a twin set on wheels so you move it about and run the cloths through a rinse twice without having to lift the tubs, also with that set up she could get to the wringer for the final rinse and wring the cloths out into a basket. Learned how to make a match lighter and shooter from those old spring equipped cloths pins. Needing to hang the cloths to dry, kept me in cloths pins to convert.
