The Jobs Board Is Live — Here's How It Works

Job openings have moved off the Surveying Jobs forum and onto a proper board at rpls.com/jobs. That forum is now read-only — nothing's been deleted, every old link still works, but new openings go on the board from here on.

Here's what changed, and why.

Why bother

Job posts have lived in that forum for years and they worked well enough. But a thread is a blunt tool for a job opening. Threads scroll away. There's no telling an open position from one filled eighteen months ago. You can't sort by state. And Google never really understood what it was looking at.

The new board fixes that:

• Open jobs sort to the top, and every listing carries an Open or Closed badge — so nobody wastes an afternoon chasing a job that's long gone.
• State pages. Every listing lands on one, so surveyors can find work near home.
• Google reads them properly now. Listings are marked up the way Google wants, so they can turn up in Google's job results — putting your opening in front of surveyors who've never heard of this place.
• Anyone can read the board. No login, no membership. That's on purpose: the more eyes on your opening, the better it works for you.

Where your old post went

Some of the open postings were brought over to the board. Not all of them made the trip.

Have a look at rpls.com/jobs for yours. If it's there, you're set — you can edit it from your dashboard. If it isn't, post it fresh. The old threads stay right where they are either way.

Posting an opening

Head to https://rpls.com/jobs and hit Post a Job. You'll need to be logged in. New listings get a quick look before they go live — the same review we've always done on first posts.

The form asks the usual: the role, where the work is, whether it's remote, full-time or contract, and the pay. Put in the pay if you possibly can — a listing with no pay often gets skipped.

A few things worth knowing:

• Two ways for people to reach you. Point the Apply button at your own application page, or let folks use Message the employer — that one routes straight to your inbox without ever putting your email address on a public page.
• Set a closing date, or mark it filled when you're done — either one flips the listing to Closed. It's the kindest thing you can do for the next surveyor who finds it. If you don't set a closing date, the listing closes itself 90 days after you post it, so nothing sits there looking open long after the crew's been hired. Still looking when that happens? Open the listing and give it a fresh closing date.
• Closed doesn't mean gone. The page stays up for good — old links keep working — it just stops telling Google you're hiring, and starts pointing readers at whatever's currently open in your state.
• Already in Find a Surveyor? Switch on Link my directory listing and your company name, logo, and website fill themselves in on every job you post — one place to keep them current instead of retyping them every time.
• You can attach a PDF if you've got a flyer or an application form. Still write out the description, though — that's the part Google actually reads.

The one rule that carries over

Same as it's always been: private parties only. Firms posting their own openings. No recruiters, no temp agencies, no job-board scrapers. That's what's kept this corner of the site worth reading, and it isn't changing.

On membership

Memberships start August 1, 2026. From then, posting a job is a member benefit. Reading the board stays free to everyone, always — no login, no membership, and that isn't changing. Until then, everything works as it does today. Saying so now so it's no surprise later.

Old threads stay put for now. New openings go on the board. Mark them filled when you're done.
