Aloha, today marks the first year anniversary since I registered here. I've learn so much! More than any books or other websites could ever offer!
I believe most of you know that I am not PLS from the day one. Yet, many of you are so generous with your time and sharing your priceless knowledge. Some of my questions were so basic. But each one them were taken seriously and I received great answers and examples. Several of you continued to help me via email and phone--long after my post on this site. For that I am forever grateful to each and everyone of you.
You all changed my view of Land Surveying. Everyday, I see the proof on this site, that it is an art and a science. I never thought I will admire surveying so much when I began to explore it! One thing I noticed was in the past year was, it is not just a job for all you, but something you all are extremely passionate about.
Wendell and Angel huge mahalos to both of you for this site. I hope this site will continue to be the light that guides all the non surveyor like me to understand and appreciate surveying and surveyors.
Finally, there are so many beautiful quotes many of us have for signature. One that I can never stop admiring each time I read is by Nate The Surveyor, "Surveying is more than a Job----it is a passion to provide a foundation for future generation, that is beyond reproach." In my humble opinion this is the ultimate spirit of surveying! I take this seriously and trying to leave something beyond reproach for the future generation of my monastic community.
These words barely expresses my gratitude, appreciation and admiration! Mahalo and Aloha everyone!

It's been a pleasure reading your posts Yoginatha. Glad you have found us, and us found you. Your contributions are very grounding. .:bye: Mahlo:-D
Yoginathaswami,
Happy one year. It's always a pleasure to read your posts. Your questions are always straightforward and you are humble like a monk. Wait a minute...
Just yesterday I asked a new hire to study one of your early threads on the different methods of getting onto a coordinate system.
As you pointed out, surveying is more than just a job and the learning never ends.
Perhaps when it does, then would be a good time to move on to something else. 😉
I'll be in Kauai next winter for a couple of weeks to hike the Napali coast to the Kalalau Valley. Hope you will have time to give us a quick tour of the monastery while we are there.
Cheers!
Williwaw
Thank you! I'm glad that you have gained so much from our little website. It's our pleasure to have you here.
🙂
Wow man. I did not think that quote would make that high of a score with anybody... I thought it was a common passion. (And for many, I think it is).
I came up with that quote, while working on a local job, where another surveyor, did a bit of "Wham Bam" surveying, and I did the piece next door. And came to a different conclusion, than he did, on some of the lines.
I concur, with the statement you made about Wendell and Angel. This site is a necessary service to the surveying community.
I think maybe if the offending surveyor above (wham bam), were a participant in this forum, and had the fellowship that Wendell and Angel provide, maybe his work would benefit.
Sometimes, we just need community. And, discussing stuff with the title co, or Realtor does not constitute fellowship, most of the time!
Thanks yswami, for your kind words. We are probably not real similar religion wise, but truth? Truth has no boundaries! You are a Monk, and I am a terribly old fashioned Baptist.
That's what it cool about truth. It's true, no matter what angle you look at it!
Nate
A Happy one year!
and thanks for posting here.
It's always good to read the opinions of the colleagues even on the basics of surveying. Fantastic that you learn here more than in the books, that's exactly what I felt when I discovered the old board 6 or 7 years ago.
There's so much wisdom and experience here available, we have to thank all the posters for the time they spent here answering questions while running a business and/or doing their daily job.
Chritof.
Ditto all the comments here, can't really add much to what's been said. I have learned a considerable amount of stuff here and not just surveying!! Feel a little "dumb" sometimes as I ask questions, but most of these guys are gentle in their "flaming":-D

Aloha, Williwaw:
Thanks! I think all survey students should visit SurveyConnect at least once a day. It will teach them a lot and lighten their day with a lot of humor as well:-D
Glad to hear you'll be visiting Kauai! I'd be very happy to give you a tour!
Kalalau Valley is great hike and there are excellent views along the way; however, certain part of the trail can be challenging. Now days many simply take helicopter tour 😛
Than you Angel and Wendell and all that have posted to help our colleagues internationally.
Cheers,
Derek

Aloha, Nate: Thank you for sharing the story behind the quote.
You are right but the "truth." Now you are writing like a monk;-)

Aloha, Christof:
It always amazes me when I notice some of the forum members' persistence in helping others. Everyone have so much to offer. Hence I was compelled to write this post. I wish I see more survey students post questions here.
Aloha, Robert:
Thank you!!
Mahalo
I hiked it 5 years ago. Going back with the girlfriend for a little frolick in paradise.
While cooling off in one of the waterfalls in my birthday suit along the way, one of those helicopters full of tourists dropped in for a visit. The pilot was evidently temporarily blinded by my Alaska white rear end and quickly departed. Those tourists got a bit more of a show than they bargained for! 😛

I'll second that!
jefe yswami has a valuable lesson for all of us, many lessons
really. one of which is quiet introspection and the patience to find the right answers only after careful thought.
welcome again, and slainte

Aloha, Williwaw: That is really funny! I know what the pilot was thinking..."crazy haule.":-D
I went on the hike about 15 years ago! I think that time we only went up to a lookout where you can see beautiful Hanalei Bay.
Email me once you have a firm dates of your visit!
