As you may already be aware, the software this forum is built on has been stretched far beyond its means. The best analogy I can think of is Windows XP -- it was a great product in its hey day, but Microsoft chose to end support due to security issues and outdated technology. Does it still work? Technically yes, but it's a hazard to its users and lacking newer features. Well, these are problems we face with SurveyorConnect's current software.
Add on top of that the fact that SurveyorConnect, in its current form, is not a money-maker for us. Fact is, we lose money.
But please don't take that the wrong way. We appreciate the support we have received and do occasionally receive to this day. We still believe in SC and we want to keep it going. This means upgrading the software and expanding our market in order to make it profitable so it can live on far into the future.
Anyway, we've explained this in much more detail in our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/surveyorconnect-elevate-the-conversation/x/8759613
We'd love it if you'd join us in embracing the future.
I'm in.
I just jumped on board as well. But, Wendell / Angel, don't send me any "stuff". Really don't need any more "stuff" around here. Consider the postage not used a little extra donation from me.
I'm on board, too. But like Dave, please don't send me anything. I'm running out of room to store everything else that I've accrued. And thanks again for everything that y'all do.
I think it's time for the vendors to step up too. I know we're in the process of having your group redo our website but when it goes live we'd like to contribute 5 percent of all online sales for an entire month.
I urge all the other vendors to do the same.
This had been a great learning resource. Half the time I find out about a bug or a problem here instead of the manufacturers.
As a daily observer and seldom commenter, I appreciate the time and effort you guys do to maintain this board. Thank you for the effort and keep up the good work!
I'm in.
Wendell and Angel,
I just contributed.
Thank you very much for all you do. I gain much more from this site than I could ever contribute.
This site is invaluable to me as a solo surveyor. I can bounce ideas and questions off of fellow professionals, and sometimes have a response in minutes.
Thanks again,
Jimmy
I'm in too. Did not like the total I saw, so I changed it.
Keep up the good work. This site keeps me occupied and out of trouble. Without it me and Holy Cow would probably be cellmates. :-O 😛
I'm in! I've gotten a lot out of this site. I figured it was time to give something back.
Definitely, live long and prosper . . though my only concern is that "new and improved" was the death knell of another site I remember not so long ago.
Let's elevate the conversation Challenge
Well, it was almost time for an annual contribution anyway so I gave now.
I have over 2000 posts here so I CHALLNGE all posters with over that total to match my arpenteur.la PLS contribution.
C'mon boys and girls , we are only talking about $8 and some pocket change/month for the site to evolve with nifty new features.
Who is going to step up?
Will contribute shortly. I do not need another orange shirt or the other swag; what I like is the glass beer mug. If you are not going to add a mug option, could you send the template so I can have one made with a 2014?
> Definitely, live long and prosper . . though my only concern is that "new and improved" was the death knell of another site I remember not so long ago.
We knew that would be a concern, which is why we addressed the feature requests sent in by our users. The first item on the agenda is how to implement the features so many people have been asking for. We don't want to ignore your requests, we want to address your requests. The table on the Indiegogo page provides a list of features (most of which were requested by users) and how the new system would implement them.
Then we looked at other features that we knew would help sustain the site, like social media and mobile applications -- but without forcing them on you. These features will be available to you but not required to participate. 🙂
Another sincere, "Thank you". I'm a newer user and that's for having the site and for all of the Professionals (licensed and un-) that offer their opinions, insights and personal experiences.
Personal opinion: The older-school, straight-forward layout of this BB is a plus for me. I hope that you can keep it a little low-tech in the face of modern code.
The best to everyone,
In
Hi Wendell,
Sent a contribution via PayPal this summer, did you ever receive it?
There will be more features, but you won't be required to use them (such as social media, mobile, etc.). It will still function as a simple forum where you create topics and post replies, which operate much in the same way (but better).
For example, the posting editor in the existing forum uses bbcode, which simply inserts code into the editor. This actually makes it more complicated because all you see is code until you post or preview, so it can get tedious. The new editor would be WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get), which is like creating a mini article in Microsoft Word -- that is, you can SEE the formatting without any code. Even better, if you are a diehard fan of the bbcode editor, the new editor would have a bbcode switch that allows you to create your posts just like you do here now.
Yes, sir, thank you very much! 🙂
To anyone else who may have donated recently, please don't feel obligated to participate in the Indiegogo campaign. We have received and appreciate your support. 🙂
Hmmm... we may have to consider adding the mug back in. Last year, we made 12 of them and ended up giving several away in contests and door prizes and such.
