Hello Everyone;
We are a small island in the Caribbean with unique problems but limited abilities to discuss the issues.
There are a total of 7 registered and practicing land surveyors on Cayman?ÿwho will undertake almost any surveying issue - from aerial to hydrographic to engineering and cadastral.
I am the Chief Surveyor who controls all surveys in the island and that?ÿresponsibility is mandated by local laws and regulations. Therefore I am called to make decisions with basic guidance. I end up doing a lot of online research to arrive at sound decisions with a documented path on how I got there. But sometimes one needs to discuss?ÿthings with others who may have encountered such issues. I have been a surveyor for the past 37 years.
I look forward to participating in discussions and giving an outside point of view.
Cheers
Mike
Welcome!

Welcome, from another small Caribbean Island, St. John US Virgin Islands.
We have a lot of common problems, I expect, although I am on the other side of the fence.?ÿI?ÿoccasionally disagree and sometimes fight with the "Public Surveyor" who reviews my work. One problem is that we have no functional Board of Registration or Atty.?ÿGeneral to keep surveyors in line and keep standards up like a bigger place has. ?ÿIt's all up to the Public Surveyor. I don't envy you for your position. You will get a lot of opinions here, mostly of tremendous value.
Welcome from Florida
I love Grand Cayman and would like to live there however the Gov't requires immigrants, expats or whatever I would be called are required to have a very substantial net worth to be considered for residency.
If you can't resolve a particular problem, somebody here probably can there are many intelligent surveyors here. (I ain't one of 'em)?ÿ ??ÿ
If anyone of you guys on the islands ever need help....Mobile LiDAR, drone mapping, hydrographic, beach erosion monitoring, topographic work, someone to help sit on the beautiful beach....Please feel free to contact me...Welcome aboard - vast amounts of info here!
Welcome from Kentucky.?ÿ My brother was a Pastor for a church on the island for 4 years.?ÿ Beautiful place.
Hi Larry;
We have a good structured approach to surveying. There is?ÿa Land Surveyors Board involved with both issuing surveying licenses as well as enforcing "the laws". It can also act as an appeal board, but since the Chief Surveyor is the Chairman, one wonders if there?ÿis actually a fair appeal. To disagree to a Chief Surveyor's ruling requires a Grand Court ruling. Needless to say, there has only been no instances that I have been aware of.
All private and public surveys are QA'd by independent Government employed surveyors who cannot undertake any surveying work, and no survey is considered official unless it has the Chief Surveyors signature. It does at times involve differences in opinion, and I usually get called into the middle of sometime heated arguments.
But I consider it all part of the job - and gives a bit of excitement. 🙂

Hello FL/GA PLS.
The other option is to become employed by a local survey firm and take things from there!

I'm too old/lazy to work in the field but am still capable of office work, contract negotiations?ÿand marketing. I want to ??retire? there. I??ve almost met the requirements necessary but still have questions about dual citizenship.
Thanks for your reply!
Welcome.
