EQUIPMENT THEFT SCHEME MAKING ITS WAY ACROSS COUNTRY

There is currently a theft scheme in play that has targeted surveying companies in California and Florida.

A Ukrainian or Russian man that has used the name Yevgeniy Kostenko (also goes by Yev) comes in for an interview (or possibly gets as far as being hired) and steals equipment, never to be heard from again. The person in the photo below is the alleged perpetrator.

Please be diligent in your own hiring efforts and alert the police if he contacts you.

A BIG THANK YOU to PLSO for reporting this in an email blast today!

Yes! kudos to them and those like them!

Another couple scams to look out for:

  • An email looking for someone to survey a piece of property they don't own, yet. One of the first things they want to know is; do you take credit cards. Then they want you to run a payment to their Architect... Don't do it.
  • Emails from other members of your organization; wanting you you purchase gift cards and they'll reimburse you. Don't do it...

that is all

A simple, "No, I do not take credit cards for payment." should suffice. That would be my first answer in evrey case. However, if I did take credit cards, I would still tell them that I do not until such time that I had adequate rapport with them to feel comfortable about the situation.

A buddy of mine, that does concrete work, fell for that scam; he lost 2 grand.

If I feel like a scam like that is coming on; I tell them I only accept cash; all up front...

'CLICK'

The one that almost caught me; was the email from an LSAW member. shoulda caught the phony email

"The person in the photo below is the alleged perpetrator."

Am I the only one who does not see a photo?

Thank you for posting this. We came across this guy down in San Diego back in March 2022. We interviewed him and tried to offer him a position only to never hear from him again. He tried to contact us again in October 2023 but we didn't respond. This posts confirms our suspicions about him.
