Howdy,

I'm the assistant Chief Surveyor for Harris County. I am also in the process of starting a side gig to encroach on my already time consuming hobbies of bass fishing and old vehicles. But I could use the extra $$ because both hobbies will DRAIN your bank account. I found this site googling around for radio information and read the thread on solo startups. So I registered.

whoa....
Correct me if I'm wrong Darryl, but doesn't Harris County have like 4 million people in it? That's a whole lot of elbow rubbing for this Okie.

But welcome! And good luck with your side gig.

Another Texas surveyor here will only make the mix a little spicier.

But wait, they really do agree on something...they all agree the other is wrong!

But I don't think that is really "State Specific".

Yes 4.4 million people according to the internet. Probably why I like to fish so much...

I have only had my license 3 years, so I have plenty to learn.

Thanks for the welcomes.

Welcome Darryl.

I know around four or five "Deral/derral s and they none of them spell their names the same way and none of them spell it the same way you do. I think it might be the most multiple-spelling name I know. Okay, that wasn't saying much, just an observation.

Anyway, welcome. It's a great site. I've been here and the one before this for many years, been licensed for 27 years, and have learned a lot here.

I caught the one in my picture on a swim jig. I fish various soft plastics, spinner baits, crankbaits, jigs, and big swimbaits.

I probably wont have to explain my boat's name on this site.

Once upon a time I worked with a Jimmy whose younger brother was named James. Jimmy was born while the family lived in Arkansas. James came along after they moved to Michigan.

Are you saying Texas surveyors are disagreeable? I don't think your right about that.

@Andy Nold , it's not that he's not right about it. I don't think you're right about us not being disagreeable. 🙂

I hear what you're saying Kris, and maybe that's the way someone from EAST Texas would put it. But it's certainly not how one who takes themselves seriously as a Texan would say it.

Oh, and welcome to the forum, Darryl. There's been some solid advice and interesting survey work shared here by the past and current Derals and Darryls, etc.

All one has to do is look at the megathread a couple months back on how a qualified, professional land surveyor would always describe what he finds as a monument and its accessories on his survey report in Texas.

Well it took me literally 4 days to read the megathread about using fence posts as corner monuments. I could tell it was going to be a good read but I was so busy I just left the window open on my desktop and read a few posts at a time. When I came in the next morning, there were several new pages of discourse. I finally finished it about Thursday of last week having started reading on Monday if I recall correctly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad about being too busy to read a forum post. We're darned lucky that we have good clients. And I noticed oil was up 4% last time I checked so we'll see.
