My first taste of surveying was running level loops along logging roads in eastern North Carolina.?ÿ First used a K&E transit, then a Zeiss self -leveling level.
Since then I have been in the survey field.
In the Army, I signed up for Artillery surveying.
Went to Paul Smith's College and majored in surveying.
I have been working in Vermont since 1974.
Now I am almost retired.
I am also a bagpiper.
Hey Bill! Thanks for joining us. 🙂
Welcome, I'm a Bill too but "already retired" ?????ÿ
When I saw Bill from Vermont I thought, "Oh, no.?ÿ Who do I owe in Vermont?"
Much relieved to discover another surveyor looking to join in on the fun, excitement and learning that is provided here.?ÿ One big dysfunctional (sometimes) family.
I am also a bagpiper.
Welcome, friend.
I am also a bagpiper.
Highland, uillean, or other?
Welcome!
Pipes like this?

Aye!!!!
Welcome.
I went to Paul Smiths (72) too, and I still use my Zeiss level on occasion.

Sounds like you've had a fine life and retirement is just around the corner!?ÿ So sorry to hear you play the bagpipes; there are support groups that can help you break the habit.
Welcome...ranger school 85

Ahhh the logging roads of Eastern NC. One of the first companies I worked for did a lot of work for Weyerhaeuser. ?ÿI??m more than familiar with a few miles of roads built by ditching both sides of a line through a pocosin and throwing the spoil in between. The places where the largest black bears in North Carolina are found. Talk about flat. You can see for miles along these roads on a cool winter day and then suffocate in the humidity in July and August while battling the heat shimmer and deer flies on a 200?? shot.?ÿ
@richard-imrie my daughter knows that if I am to pay even a dime toward a weeding for her, there will be bagpipes.
Did you do that on purpose??ÿ Sort of like me always referring to a building women frequent as a beauty saloon instead of a beauty salon.
This entire video is funny, but the question going to John Davidson at about 2:55 never gets answered.?ÿ The poor boy gets so flustered with what he is assuming is the correct answer that he accidentally provides an answer.......sort of.?ÿ Which, by the way, is not the correct answer.
?ÿ
I am pleasantly amused by how all of our resident Engineers seem to have an affection for bagpipes. Is that how y??all get rid of excess hot air you can??t fit into ??specifications? on your plans? ???? ?????ÿ
BTW, the correct answer is eyebrows.?ÿ Google that.?ÿ There are several other customs that are strange to us.
