Yeah, hard to fence that sort out.
You might of had better luck throwing up a detour sign at the Hwy 96 intersection and sent 'em all through Hoopa on their way back. That would of at least culled the herd a bit.
Glad it is back. If at first you don't ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,etc. 🙂
Lessons get learned every day. Some are far more painful than others.
Keep up the great work, Wendell.
Thank you for you effort Wendell, glad to see the site back up!
It's not a total loss on my end. I've probably signed up for about seventeen RPLS Today newsletters every month.
So I got that going for me, which is nice. 🙂
( I do seriously appreciate this site and the effort )

It also doesn't help when you get screwed over by a third-party that doesn't live up to their end of the bargain and doesn't communicate worth a crap.

There's a government agency involved? 😉
When the job gets tough, the tough get going! Job well done Wendell!

all rplstoday.com page loads are very slow
the link in email alerts bring me to https://surveyorconnect.com/community/
clicking on the alert dropdown gives me to a blank screen
clicking on statistics button gives me to a blank screen
latest posts in the statistics page usually gives me a blank screen
"Mark forums read" does not show up as a menu option when viewed from a Kindle Fire 8.
Sorry that you had to back out of the update, Wendell. My very limited experience with complex websites makes me shudder at the thought of major changes.
I've been involved with 3 different kinds of these things, as an executive rather than a technical expert. The first was back when the site was all hand-coded, and the admin had rollback scripts ready to go in the event that update deployment blew up, which it did sometimes. The rollbacks were effective and nearly instant.
The second was with a WordPress site that has an ungodly number of third-party add-ons. That was a real disaster, the admin was in way over his head and the interaction between all the bits was impossible to predict. A lot of user content was lost, the site was extremely sluggish, and it ultimately required a complete replacement at the cost of a lot of money and down time. (My conclusion is the WordPress is the wrong platform for that kind of site.)
The third experience is with a zope/plone CMS. That one works great -- it's snappy and reliable -- but the level of admin expertise required to implement and maintain it is very high. That situation is only workable because the admin is a volunteer and an officer of the nonprofit the site represents, as well as a former Plone Foundation board member and developer.
All of this makes me appreciate the fact that I'm a surveyor rather than a web developer.
Keep up the good work!
I kept hitting the 'Contact' button only to be redirected to the 'Sign up for the newsletter' form.
Side note: Wendell, if you're listening, I really don't need all seventeen copies of the newsletter. thanks
Wendell today it seems to be working fine. Did you change something? I made no changes on this side.
No changes at all.
