Removing the red dot on outdated competition that permanently sits at top of page? As currently it does.

That way I can then have the important site announcement category turned on.

Edit profiles so that we can simply enter our birthday, day and month, with out the birth year which can be thought of as an identity security risk.

With out trying to embarrass any poster is it possible to post the average donation size?

Comment how the donation funds are currently standing. Ie all used up, OK for x months or what ?

Thank you kind sir.

RADU, that contest will come down tomorrow. I promised Dan I would post it until Feb. 15th so all of the last minute guys could see it and enter. Then there's no way anyone can say "Well I didn't SEE it". 🙂

Wendell can answer the rest. 🙂

That, among other improvements, are planned for this year. Much of the backend stuff will be improved/altered and it would be double the work to change it now and then have to figure out how to get it into the improved system. Now, let me clarify something here: The interface as you know it will not be drastically changing! It will still function like it does now, but there will be some improvements based on suggestions here and privately via email. The improvements on the backend have more to do about administration than anything else. I don't want anyone to think that the forum will change from its current functionality, as there's no way I want to make the mistake(s) another forum did about 8 months ago.

> With out trying to embarrass any poster is it possible to post the average donation size?

Strictly from a non-mathematical, pure guessing standpoint, I'd have to say it probably averages out to around $20-$30 per person, of those who donated (there's about 70 of you kind souls out there). Of course, this figure does not take into account sales merchandise (which, by the way, we either lost money or broke even on).

> Comment how the donation funds are currently standing. Ie all used up, OK for x months or what ?

The donations are set aside specifically for funding the hosting and domain fees necessary to keep this site online, as well as occasional fees required for technical assistance related to the server or site software. The idea is to make sure it is funded well into the future so we don't have to worry about it. We are about 6 months ahead at this point.

As I have been asked a couple of times, your questions got me thinking that I should make something clear: Our recent trip to Hawaii was not in any way funded by donations or sales of merchandise or advertising. I don't want anyone to think that their donations are being squandered on a personal vacation, because I assure you that they certainly are not. Our trip was funded entirely by our own personal funds which have no relation whatsoever to this site's funds.

> Thank you kind sir.

You are quite welcome. 🙂

Yea but not here. And it's still 7:22 PM in Hawaii. They need a chance, too! 😉

Wendell could you please consider ...... Thanks Mate.

It had never occurred to me about donations funding your recent search for sunburn.

I was interested to see if it were time to dig in again, as I know it could be embarrassing if you had to start rattle the can .

At least we now know what the situation is regarding when to re dig....

No, not you. But "others" have wondered. For what it is worth, I promised Wendell's grandma before she died that we would go back to Hawaii. It's where she took a young Wendell and had wonderful times & memories. And her listening to me talk about it when I first went made her happy. She wanted us to go somewhere where we all had great memories and to make more. So...I couldn't go back on a promise, now could I? 🙂
We just went sooner because of the conference.

The can is always rattling!! All donations are put in it and used for what he said. All merchandise, contest gifts, etc... are paid for with our own money. There's so much more I wish we could buy and sell but for now we'll have to make do with what we have. 🙂

What a damn shame, you an Wendell loose someone near and dear to your hearts and people complain about how you got to Hawaii, good Lord, it sure seems time to cull the herd.
Just for the record, I hope that BL.com is so successful that it affords both of you the opportunity to travel all over the country attending various events.
PS. New Orleans in springtime is wonderful, not so much in late summer.

I would be down for a trip to Canada! I have a friend in Kamloops, too. I'd love to go to a land surveyor's conference in Canada, eh!

Well, the idea is to eventually be self-sufficient enough that we could attend a few conferences a year and maybe even have a booth. I recently did a workshop for the PLSO, and I could see taking that on the road.

Maybe you can do this already.....Someone above mentioned wear on the mouse from scrolling down past all the contests (by the way I love those contests!). Is it possible to collapse certain threads and leave others wide open in order to see the new postings? Just an idea, but unsure if it's feasible. Thanks.

In the top submenu, at the far right under the search bar, click "Fold threads" to fold all threads. Then just click the + sign to the left of each thread to expand the ones you want to view.
