I gathered, from the old i-boards site, that "TTT" somehow meant "refreshing an earlier thread by making a new post", but what exactly do the letters TTT stand for?

Also, is it necessary to ever do that in this modern forum? Can i not bump an old thread to to the top simply by replying to it?

Martin,

Yes, all you need to do is reply to a thread to make it move to the top.

Actually, it depends on how you have the order set.

You can set the display order based on the date/time of the original thread post, or by the date/time of any posts within a thread. Just click the "order" button near the top to toggle between the two settings.

I suspect that the TTT moniker is used by those who may be unaware of the "order" feature. 🙂

We Are Aware Of It, But Do Not Use It

Using it would possibly require setting and resetting thoughout the session.

I would surmise that some of us are just plain lazy.

However to be fair to myself and see if I like it, I have rest my order on Beer Leg. If I find my order changed over on Surveyor Connect I will revert to my old ways.

Wendell,

Out of random curiosity, can you reveal what fraction of participants here are reading the board each way (without going through heroic measures to figure it out)?

Did Not Work. I Cannot Have It Both Ways.

Unless I create an alter ego.

A Challenge For Wendell

On another board I can go to ***/myhome or to ***/home and have 2 differing settings for viewing the threads. Can you do that for BeerLeg and SurveyorConnect ?

Hmmm, that would probably require some digging...

A Challenge For Wendell

Both BL and SC are the same site with some simple conditional routines that determine which domain name you are using which then simply changes the logo and title. Otherwise, regardless of which one you use, the site(s) should retain your settings either way.

Your plate is full enough already; I retract the request if it's going to take more than a few minutes to figure out.

Ha, it was easier than I had even imagined.

  • 87% use the default order, which orders the threads based on the original post's date/time, which means that they behave like the old rpls.com, eventually scrolling off the screen regardless of how often or how many responses they receive.
  • 13% use the optional order, which brings threads with the newest posts (replies) to the top, meaning that the most currently replied-to threads stay on top.

Thanks, interesting. I would guess that much of the difference could be attributed to unawareness of the option.

I was unaware of that option, but I think I like the sidebar telling me of the latest posts better, that way I know what is currently discussed.

That's the way I used the old POB board so I guess old habits die hard. I might try it out though, just to see how it feels.

Thanks for the tip.

I see the answer to your first question within the body of your second question.

(no big deal, just thought it funny you used the actual answer to your question further in your post)

If you ask him, he will dig. Even if it takes him hours. He loves you guys!! 😉

Wonder how come that don't work for me, though? I love him but I guess it isn't the same. :u: (J/K!)
