In poking around the site, I found myself on the list of "Notable Members" which seems to be synonymous with "People Who Spend Too Much of Their Lives Posting Whether or Not They are Adding to Technical Knowledge." Several on that list do contribute significantly to knowledge, but many also fill up the forum with trivia (often entertaining).
While making a list of Notables is something of a (questionable) honor, I find it embarrassing to be considered more "Notable" (which brings to mind Wikipedia's criteria for Notability) than such valuable contributors as John Hamilton, Jerry Penry, Jerry Wahl, Duane Frymire, and many others, just because they restrict themselves to serious topics.
I hope in the longer term this list (more properly named Frequent Posters) will be augmented or replaced by a list sorted by Likes or some other measure of real contributions to knowledge. If it is to be by number of messages posted, then only posts in technical and business categories should be counted, not including General Non-Surveying or the new equivalent categories.
Bill
By the way, since I have never used the face book format before, this is my first experience with the "like" button. If I were as good with my words as Uncle P I could explain the many varied emotions I just experienced in the nano second while I hesitated to "like" your post above.
It is a strange new world at times.

You must realize the irony of your post.
It's all subjective in the long run. I find you are notable poster for many reasons or enough reasons to make you "noticeable"in my book.(page).
Others notable posters I find less. (I even tried to click ignore on my own profile).
You bring a lot to the table here.

I'm not a big FB person but I have managed/administered a FB page for a few years which required creating a personal FB page. The page I manage is a “virtual’ newsletter for a small organization. It has a 215 likes. On personal page, I have 9 friends.( 2 family,3 old HS friends, 3 local friends and Daryl M.(most interesting man in the world)
FB is a good way to keep up with family and friends or organizations. You can also get info of groups of of your interest fed to you and you can just about block anything or anyone. YOu can even block feeds of people you LIKE.
I see nothing similar to FB here but the LIKE. The old format, one would have to reply and get the :good: to do that. People who keep saying that it reminds them of FB,IMO, do not know FB.
YOu can share threads on FB here to increase the reach of the post. Instead of reaching the active members here, you can share FB or others to reach a much larger viewership. FB has power. I have had a posting on FB reach 6k people with no effort on my part.
Brad, you don't have to reply :gammon: and other symbols. Just hit like. We wil get it.
Wendell, if you ever feel like playing around with it, I'd suggest renaming "Notable Members" to be "Frequent Posters."
Then put up a list of "Notable Members" ranked by the number of Likes they have received.
The number of likes will reflect the frequency of posting more than overall quality, especially in absence of a dislike option.
The heavy hitters know who they are and I hope they know they are appreciated.
The Members page has several tabs with various statistical listings of members based on likes, messages, etc.
Apparently trophy points max out at 510 as all 20 participants listed on the members page have 510 for some reason. Can they be traded in for a coffee at Starbucks?

maybe you should remove the first three tabs

What are "Trophy Points"?
I can setup the forum to give trophy points for various activities. Right now, I only have it giving points for time since registration, for the purposes of displaying the number of years as a member for each user.
So you are saying they are participation trophy points then?

Yes. Yes they are. 😉
