I didnt know Kristi had 3 aliases.
Quite Over There
There were about 30 posts over the weekend....total.
Quite Over There
I didn't think it would matter when they changed the format, but I was wrong, I think they killed the board.
Quiet Over There
I was pretty sure it would die - it's just too slow and cumbersome.
I hate to say I told them so but
I told them so.
I remember a big fight with Crime Fighter who wanted all the bells and whistles and a new format.
Y'know,
If you look at the land surveying posts here.
It is pretty limited also.
A few posts about what kind of essentials and tp to pack in the truck and a few glib comments about GIS acres.
In all fairness , I would say it is a wash. Then it comes down to quality of the posts and not quantity.
I hate to say I told them so but
I will be the first one to admit that I was in favor of a more "modern" forum, too. I actually built one, tried to get the word out and did all the same things I did with Beer Leg. It was online for about 4 years. But, as it became more and more obvious that that style is not what the USERS want, I started to "get it". It was a "Tupperware Party" just like most newer forums (it was based on phpBB, for those interested). I shut down that site and donated the domain name to POB.
Then I started Beer Leg, based on features the USERS wanted. It may still not be quite perfect, but I'm working on that.

The other format seems like a bunch of small cubicles. Here it's like a town hall.
I still get confused by the non-linear nature of the threads, i.e., I like to check in and see the NEW comments.
Some people always respond to the bottom post and some respond to the original post.

It's a lot like the old forums like the original rpls.com that Mark Deal started. You can basically have sub-replies to other replies or just reply to the original post. I don't think everyone quite understands exactly how it works, so many will just choose the last "post reply" link in the thread. They don't realize that there are other options (at least, that's how it seems, maybe I'm wrong about that).
I like the format because of that feature... maybe you don't have anything to say in response to the original post, but maybe someone along the way brought up something that gave you a reason to post -- hence the multiple reply options.
🙂
I agree with robert
but after all it's us that makes the 'interesting' posts
I liked and learned a lot about the TGO stuf on the old POB-site, there were some really experienced users that all chimed in when they saw 'TGO' in the header ... don't know if they all made the switch.
I feel comfortable here ... enjoy a lot of posts about the survey work, I don't understand everything when it's boundery related, we have a different approach in a lot of things.
Let's post and react a little more about Landsurveying,
Chr.
btw today I met my first POB (and also Beerlegger) survey brother John, tomorrow we'll be surveying toghether near Ghent, will be fun!
Just Out of Curiosity........
....who was "Crime Fighter", and does he post on POB, now that it has been transformed into something more like what he wanted?
If he is posting, I don't think he's using the "Crime Fighter" nickname.
Agreed, but we are only a few months old. As time passes, the knowledge base will surely increase. 🙂
Wendell,
One other thing i defintly like and apreciate are the quick responses 🙂
Chr.
This format, despite the many non-surveying threads, keeps us all focused on the site. Then when a significant survey-related thread gets going there are plenty of savvy people ready to jump in.
Yes, I think the continuous amount of traffic we get makes it perfect for getting a quick answer when you need it. 🙂
